Priority Group Services is seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse to join our healthcare team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures in the operating room. The Operating Room RN will work closely with the surgical team and other healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assessing patients' physical and emotional needs before, during, and after surgical procedures
- Administering medications and monitoring vital signs during surgical procedures
- Assisting the surgical team during surgical procedures, including passing instruments and supplies to the surgeon
- Maintaining a sterile field during surgical procedures and ensuring adherence to infection control protocols
- Monitoring and documenting patient progress and communicating with healthcare professionals regarding changes in the patient's condition
- Providing emotional support to patients and their families during the surgical process
- Participating in quality improvement initiatives and maintaining a safe and effective work environment
During the surgical procedure, OR Nurses can take the role of:
Circulating Nurse, with the following additional duties:
- Assists in positioning and responding to the comfort/safety of patients
- Provides for accurate care and handling of specimens
- Observes and enforces strict standards of asepsis
- Observes, checks, and monitors all equipment used during surgery to confirm they are running smoothly
- Inventories all items both pre-and post-surgery
Scrub Nurse, with the following additional duties:
- Selects and handles instruments and supplies used for the operation, passing them to the surgeon
- Inventories all items both pre-and post-surgery
- Delivers direct surgical care by assisting physicians
- Provides wound exposure
- Sutures patients after the surgery
- Completes required orientation as directed by facility
- Follows facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures while on assignment
- Follows facility and GHR Unusual Occurrence Protocol
- Respects the cultural and religious practices of patients
- Upholds HIPAA regulations
- Punctual and dependent on assigned/confirmed shifts
Requirements:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred
- Minimum of two years of experience as an Operating Room RN
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and equipment
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
