The Lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist, under the direction of the Radiologist, Cardiologist and/or DI Administration performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgement, ingenuity and initiative in the application of prescribed radionuclides to patients for diagnosis of disease. The Lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist assists physicians in selection of practical application and technical factors, and is responsible for the smooth, daily operation of the department in all aspects.
Lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist Job Responsibilities:
- Perform a variety of Nuclear Medicine exams related to the field including cardiac SPECT.
- Set, adjust, manipulate, control and maintain a variety of complex electronic nuclear medicine equipment for diagnosis.
- Prepare radioactive tracer compounds for patient use and administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients in appropriate dosages.
- Deal with operational and staff issues directly and review staff evaluations.
- Key test data and patient information into computer of Nuclear Medicine equipment to maintain record of test results.
- Explain procedure to the patient. Instruct and assist patient in assuming physical position for exam.
- Follow NRC guidelines of documentation, safety and approved protocols.
- Complete ACR accreditation, NRC application and renewals and any other governing bodies that are required.
- Practice radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patient, staff and self.
Lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist Education and Experience Requirements:
- Successful completion of a formal Nuclear Medicine training program approved by the Council on Education of the American Medical Association required.
- Certified or registered in Nuclear Medicine by the ARRTN or CNMT required.
- Required to maintain appropriate CEU's to meet ARRT requirements.
- CPR – Current AHA Healthcare Provider Certification / equivalent within 3 months of hire is required.
- Minimum of five years practical experience performing related duties in the field of Nuclear Medicine preferred.
- At least one year experience as a supervisor or in a position with responsibility required.

- Rotate shifts as required and take call when designated.

- Organize and schedule patients and staff.
- Deal with stressful situations.
- Maintain operations according to the philosophy and culture of the organization.
- Work without direct supervision within the guidelines established by the DI Administration.
