Job Summary:
Nurse managers are responsible to a patient care executive and manage one or more defined areas of organized nursing services. In smaller settings, they may have responsibilities for management of the entire facility and its services. Nurse managers allocate available resources to promote efficient, effective, and compassionate nursing care, provide input into executive-level decisions, and keep staff informed of executive-level activities. Nurse managers coordinate activities between defined areas, and provide clinical and administrative leadership and expertise. They facilitate an atmosphere of interactive management and the development of collegial relationships among nursing personnel and others. They serve as a link between nursing personnel and other health care disciplines throughout the organization. Nurse managers have major responsibility for the implementation of the vision, mission, plans, and standards of the organization and nursing services within their defined areas of responsibility.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education and/or Experience:
- Graduate from a CCNE or NLN accredited nursing program is strongly preferred. Graduate from an approved nursing program is acceptable.
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in nursing required.
- Two to three years of leadership experience is preferred.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of South Dakota and/or meeting the requirements of Multi-state licensure required.
- Certified in specialty area of nursing practice required within 12 months of hire.
Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday, Day Shift, occasional call; 80hrs/2wks
