Western State Hospital (WSH) within the Behavioral Health Administration (BHA) is seeking a Primary Care Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner who is passionate about serving people with mental health conditions and interested in working night shifts in an inpatient setting.
Working closely with multiple disciplines, you will have an influential voice related to the physical and medical needs of the people we serve. Patient evaluations include history and physical, appropriate diagnostic procedures, initial medical management, and response to medical emergencies.
WSH is not driven by economics; this allows our staff the ability to focus on developing creative approaches to treatment and care. Night shifts include a shift differential in addition to the standard compensation rate.
Your role within the hospital:
- Perform physical examinations and re-admission physical examinations timely in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Conduct medical assessments of patients with acute and chronic medical conditions as per standard of care.
- Assess, diagnose and treat onset of new medical problems; order and interpret lab tests and other diagnostic procedures/studies.
- Coordinate specialty referrals.
- Perform minor surgical procedures.
- Perform emergency medical responses including basic life support and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) support in case of medical emergency.
- Coordinate ED referral.

What we are looking for:
- Master’s degree in nursing or Doctorate Degree in Nursing Practice meeting the Washington State Department of Health requirements for ARNP licensure.
- Certification by Accreditation Board of Specialty Nursing Certification in Family Nurse Practice-Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Practice – or Acute Care/Emergency Practice.
- Great clinical and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally, in writing and via computer.
- Ability to use Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Full mobility with ability to reach all buildings in a timely fashion within campus independently.
