The City of Virginia Beach is seeking a dedicated and experienced Occupational Health Manager to lead our Occupational Health Services team. This key leadership role is responsible for ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, managing health-related cases, and leading a team of healthcare professionals to promote a safe and healthy work environment for all City employees.
Duties will include, but not be limited to:
- Provide strategic direction and leadership for the Occupational Health Services team.
- Supervise and manage Registered Nurses, Medical Assistants, and other healthcare staff.
- Ensure staff maintain up-to-date training, certifications, and knowledge of industry best practices.
- Oversee the Return to Work and Disability Management programs, ensuring timely and safe reintegration of employees.
- Manage the City’s occupational vaccination program and coordinate health and wellness programs.
- Perform and supervise clinical assessments, screenings, and interventions to evaluate employee health and work readiness.
- Provide case management for complex health cases, including occupational exposure, ADA accommodations, FMLA certifications, and return-to-work evaluations.
- Collaborate with Occupational Safety to conduct workplace assessments, ergonomic reviews, and risk management.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, NIOSH, ADA, FMLA, and other relevant health and safety regulations.
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures to promote a safe and healthy working environment.
- Collaborate with various City departments, external medical providers, and regulatory agencies.
- Manage the Occupational Health Services budget and prepare reports on program performance and health trends.
- Prepare and present reports on program performance, health trends, and compliance metrics.
- Oversee the maintenance of medical records, ensuring confidentiality and legal compliance.

Working Conditions:
Minimum Requirements:
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or related field and current and valid licensure as a Registered Nurse by the Commonwealth of Virginia or as a part of the Compact Designation (Multi-State Privileges), and seven (7) or more years of nursing experience, including two (2) years in a supervisory or management role, in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Current CPR certification. Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
Preferences:
Master’s Degree in Nursing, Public or Healthcare Administration.
Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) and/or Case Manager (CCM).
Experience in managing disability management programs, work hardening programs, and/or return-to-work programs.
Experience supervising and/or managing Registered Nurses, Medical Assistants and/or other healthcare staff.
Experience performing and supervising clinical assessments, screenings, and/or interventions.
Experience with OSHA, NIOSH, ADA, FMLA, and/or other relevant health and safety regulations.
Experience with developing and implementing health and/or safety policies and procedures.
