RESPONSIBILITIES: Leader for nursing staff and oversees clinical office operations in Dodge City. Direct patient care as a member of the medical team. A patient advocate. Assist with procedures as directed by the Provider. Perform laboratory tests as instructed.
PHI ACCESS AND DISCLOSURE: It is the policy of our practice that all providers and staff preserve the integrity and the confidentiality of protected health information (PHI) pertaining to our patients. To ensure that a Staff Nurse has the necessary medical and PHI to provide the highest quality medical care possible she/he will have access to the patient’s medical chart, demographic information, and when necessary financial information. The Staff Nurse will be required to sign a Confidentiality Agreement prior to receiving access to this information.
JOB DUTIES ADMINISTRATIVE:
- May delegate specific tasks but is responsible for completeness and accuracy.
- Reviews the orders list and provides the list to the Regional Director for final approval prior to submitting the order.
- Orientates newly hired Nurse/MA, Reviews their competency level and ability to perform assigned duties.
- Responsible for training of the Nurses and MA’s, including assisting experienced staff with training.
- Communicates to the providers and/or Regional Director if there are limited capabilities or “problems” with a staff nurse.
- Assists with performance feedback and corrective action plans.
- Assists in the hiring process. This includes knowing when additional staff is needed based on volume (this will be recommended to the Regional Director, Management Team for approval) and interview all applicants.
- Ensure that each provider is adequately staffed for the number of patients that are scheduled and for the other job duties that need completed, while maintaining optimum productivity but not overwhelming the nursing staff.
- Communicates with other nursing staff and disseminates pertinent new information from the providers and the Regional Director.
- Assists with the scheduling of patients and scheduling changes as directed by the providers with the approval of the Regional Director.
- Completes the monthly work schedule for the nursing staff.
- Completes the first approval for vacation requests in the time clock.
- Attends staff meetings and any management meetings they are requested to attend and then conveys new information to nursing staff.
- Ensures staff are following pathology protocol and making sure that pathology is followed up in a timely manner.
- Makes suggestions to providers or Regional Director for needed changes in policies and procedures.
- Works with the front desk supervisor as well regarding issues related to the front desk (not scheduling pt correctly, not getting phone call messages to the appropriate staff, etc).
- Must work well with nurses, providers, front desk personnel and Management.
- Performs all the same nursing duties and responsibilities as the other nursing staff (see below).
JOB DUTIES STAFF NURSE:
- Patient contact
- Prepare patients for examination and/or procedures
- Take medical histories
- Be as scribe for the virtual exam (Exam, Impression, Plan)
- Lab/Pathology follow-up under providers direction
- Apply Levulon/Ameluz for PDT Treatments
- Write prescriptions under direction of Provider
- Counsel patients as to use of medications or directed home care
- Lay out surgical supplies and set up equipment
- Preoperative counseling and patient preparation
- Assist in surgery
- Apply postoperative dressings
- Suture removal
- Treatment of warts and benign keratosis by liquid nitrogen treatment including cryospray
- Perform acne surgery
- Give IM, IL, and sub-q injections, and interpret possible reactions
- Screen phone calls regarding patient medical problems
- Perform phototherapy treatments with light box
- Make pre-op and post-op calls
Laboratory:
- Collect, perform, and record results for bacteriological, fungal, parasitic, and cytology specimens if appropriately trained and directed by the lab director
- KOH
- Mineral Oil
- Perform Glyoxine test of metals for free nickel
- Perform, interpret, and record patch testing
- Operation of the cryostat if directed to do so (A limited number of Staff are trained to do this)
Custodial:
- Prepare instrument packs and autoclave
- Prepare, maintain, and utilize cold sterilization
- Prepare examination rooms between patients
- Restock exam, surgical, and treatment areas daily
- Periodic inventory of medical supplies and patient information forms
- Stock and maintain emergency cart
- Light housekeeping
- Pick up and keep counter tops organized and cleaned daily with a disinfectant
- Empty trash—both contaminated and noncontaminated according to OSHA guidelines
- Vacuum and decontaminate rooms as necessary
- Laundry—wash, fold, put away
- Opening and closing office procedures.
Receptionist/administrative functions:
- Answer phone
- Make appointments
- Record lab work in patient EMR
- Download and label digital photos
- File histopathology slides
- Order medical and patient information supplies as directed by the Director of Nursing
- Drive to satellite clinics (if needed)
- Assign duties as needed for staff
- Duties as assigned by management
