Senior Investment Analyst, Private Asset Based Lending
This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in the Hartford, CT office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
About this role: The Private Asset Based Lending ("ABL") team provides asset-based financing to private equity funds, commercial lenders and other financial sponsors through structured credit facilities. Private ABL is part of HIMCO's Alternative Investments group.
The team primarily focuses on sourcing and underwriting credit facilities spanning across Direct Lending, Fund Finance and Commercial Finance. The investment strategy includes a wide array of financing and financial sponsor capital raising solutions which are suitable for HIMCO client investment portfolios.
The Private ABL team is looking for a highly motivated Senior Investment Analyst to support the team in sourcing, underwriting and executing Private ABL credit facilities and other private credit investments. The candidate's responsibilities will include assisting in: investment due diligence, cash flow modeling, structuring and legal negotiation, portfolio management, client reporting, and internal policy development and refinement. Given the breadth of the Private ABL investment strategy, the team is searching for a dynamic candidate with the ability to think independently and work effectively in a fast paced and demanding environment.
In This Role, You Will
- Support the development and execution of the Private ABL lending strategy
- Assist in transaction due diligence including evaluating fund documents, financial statements, deal structures and financial sponsor track records
- Write investment committee memos and periodic transaction updates in partnership with deal team members
- Assist in the negotiation of legal documentation with the support of internal counsel
- Monitor and support the execution of facility amendments and other modifications
- Support the buildout and ongoing monitoring of the investment portfolio, including establishing industry trend reporting, deal specific analytics and regulatory updates
- Establish and maintain strong partnerships with internal stakeholders across HIMCO (including Insurance Portfolio Management, Risk Management and Operations)
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to manage transaction booking, funding processes, asset valuations, and compliance
- Assist in the development of internal policies and procedures
- Fulfill ad hoc client requests
- Be a leader in the Private ABL team, including driving a positive culture and team based approach
Required Qualifications: - 3+ years of investment management experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications - Strong interest in investment management including originating and monitoring Direct Lending transactions, Fund Finance credit facilities and other asset-backed finance facilities is strongly preferred
- Knowledgeable of private capital (both credit and equity), Direct Lending, business development companies ("BDCs"), Fund Finance, and structured finance industries including key performance indicators, transaction structures, investment strategies, cash flows, performance metrics, and various product use cases
- Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
- Experience with financial modeling including cash flow forecasting in Microsoft Excel
- Experience creating client presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint
- Ability to manage a high-volume workload while maintaining excellence and consistency of work
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment, as well as independently
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- High level of personal motivation. Does more than what is asked for and anticipates questions/issues
Compensation The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$97,750 - $132,250
