The Ciena GCN Sales team is looking for a self-motivated, sociable, technical sales engineer to help support our GCN customers as they continue to grow and deploy Ciena technology. With growing product base, the current sales engineering team needs additional resources to support ongoing lab engagement, ever-growing install base and a wide variety of customer touch points. The ideal candidate will be most of all willing to learn. Communication skills are essential to support customer contacts with skill levels ranging from PhD to technician. Strong technical ability is a must as the role will focus on helping our customers understand Ciena technology through back-and-forth forums and lab engagement. Must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, US.
Responsibilities and General Activities:
- Drive and support the introduction of Ciena coherent plugs (i.e 800G ZR, 800G LR, 1600G ZR etc).
- Support Meta lab testing of Ciena plugs into 3rd party host platforms.
- On-going Engineering support
- Feature Request Management
- Product Defects Management
- Release Management
- Quality Management
- Continual engagement with Ciena PLM and R&D organizations to communicate customer needs
- Customer service management support
- Network design support
- Critical issue support
- Emergency Design issues
- Emergency Logistics issues
- Customer question and answer forums support
- Training support - course delivery and auditing
- Services and Hardware PO/Quote Support
- Present account status updates weekly to broader sales teams
- Some travel required for training and off-site meetings
- Attend Inter-company team building events
Experience:
- Background in optical transport technology
- Understanding of coherent plug evolution and underlying technologies (such as coherent modulation, FEC, Baud rates etc.)
- Familiarity with the work of interworking forums and standards bodies (i.e. OIF, ITU, IEEE etc.)
- Knowledge of Ciena Routing and Switching portfolio desirable
- Understanding of Data Center architectures, spine and leaf designs, edge networking
- Basic understanding of Automation concepts, ZTP methods, DCN networking, APIs and networking models.
- Excellent social skills due to dynamic nature of activities
- Strong Problem-solving skills
- Strong Communication skills
- Time management and ability to plan, prioritize, execute & follow-up within a timely manner
- Desire to learn
- Bachelor's/Master's Degree (CS, EE) and equivalent experience required
- Sales engineering and/or product support experience is a plus
The annual pay range for this position in California is $217,800 - $348,000 USD
Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.
Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
