Competitive Intelligence Advisor – Medicare Portfolio

The Role:
The Competitive Intelligence Advisor will develop and drive a CI insights agenda to support internal stakeholders and clients for Cigna Healthcare’s Medicare portfolio with a focus on individually sold Medigap and Supplemental Health and Life (SHL) products. This role will report to a Competitive Intelligence manager and will track established and emerging national or regional competitors as well as developing trends in the Medicare & SHL space. The comprehensive nature of the role will allow the Advisor to collaborate with stakeholders and clients to drive product and market strategies to optimize various Medicare and SHL portfolio products.
We expect that this role will move with the Medicare portfolio of businesses and colleagues to HCSC in the 1st Half of 2025 at which time it will become part of the Product team.
Overall Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Med Supp/SHL Product & Strategy leadership, marketing, sales and distribution, market managers and pricing teams to gather, analyze and disseminate all relevant information concerning competitors’ solutions and strategies, value propositions and go-to-market strategies. The ultimate goal is to advise our business leaders on implications to strategy, market positioning, and business decisions to help drive wins and business growth across all Medicare businesses being managed
- Support Product & Strategy leadership team to develop key business strategies, including providing competitive landscape assessments, market trend analysis and research to support new product development across Medigap, SHL, as well as companion products in the Medicare portfolio.
- Assist Product & Strategy teams with market enhancements & expansion including assessment of competitor pricing and service offerings, new entrants and overall competitive landscape assessment.
- Assist Product & Strategy teams with new product development, including CSB, PDP and portfolio products and new product launches including providing insights on competitor landscape, market size, growth and pricing in existing & new markets.
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to monitor competitor activities, new technologies, market expansion and emerging threats and opportunities. Collaborate and strategize with business segment leader(s) and marketing partners on competitive priorities and projects/deliverables.
- Continuously develop and grow internal and external network of sources and contacts to expand access to information and create meaningful CI insights aligned with identified and emerging competitors.
- Leverage internal knowledge management tools to store and promote CI content, drive user engagement, find sources and stories and be accountable for buyer group engagement in CI process, deliverables, strategy, and consumption.
- Develop research content for publications and contribute to regular and ad hoc CI releases e.g., news alerts, newsletters, research and white papers, etc.
- Support broader CI team to respond to ad-hoc requests from across the enterprise including other business units, product areas and government business strategic initiatives.
Ideal candidates will offer
- Bachelor’s degree, with MBA or other relevant degrees preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of healthcare or other benefits industry experience. Preference for experience supporting individually sold Medicare & Supplemental product strategies including experience with business/competitive intelligence, consulting or research/strategy
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to synthesize quantitative and qualitative data into strategy and actions. Preference for experience with variety of insurance vendors and databases e.g., Mark Farrah, CMS, NAIC, SERFF, Competiscan.
- Must exhibit strong desire to learn new areas of business, make an impact, engage with the team and drive business decisions with thoughtful and influential fact-based presentations.
