CVTU/CVICU is a fast-paced, skilled unit that specializes in surgical/medical cardiac, thoracic, vascular, endovascular, and other procedural patients. Our unit specializes in cardiac catheterizations, ablations, pacemakers, AICD's, Hypothermia protocol (TTM), CRRT, Cardiac Dysrhythmias, and Intensive Care medications. We are a 16 universal bed unit that takes patients in all levels of care from PCU chest pain patients to Critical Care Cardiac Arrest patients, so you will see a wide variety of patients on any given day, including those not needing specialized heart care. Beyond 1:1 orientation with a seasoned CVTU/CVICU RN, the Critical Care Fellowship is a program offered to prepare each team member to care for the critically ill, obtain the proper knowledge related to EKG assessments, and other ICU/Progressive education designed to ensure success. Other roles include providing patient care and education, medication administration, and emotional support. Summary of Primary Function
Delivers patient care utilizing the nursing process through data collection and assessment, identifies and determines the priority of patient’s problems/needs, and evaluates the process and outcome of nursing care; coordinates, provides, and directs patient teaching activities and coordinates the care provided by health team members.
Essential Job Functions
In collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team, conducts initial and ongoing patient assessment, analyzes assessment data, creates a plan of care, implements treatment, and evaluates treatment effectiveness; administers medications in a safe manner consistent with the State of Practice and organization policies and procedures; serves as a point of contact for patients' care coordination throughout hospital departments. Acts as a patient safety advocate by participating in ongoing quality improvement in the department. Incorporates the professional practice model into care delivery.

BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required upon hire)

Bachelors of Science, nursing (preferred)
