Summary:
Under the general guidance of the Physician Director is responsible for translating and supporting the goals objectives policies and procedures of the department. Maintains the standards of nursing practice in the ambulatory care setting in multiple satellite office locations. Has the delegated authority to make decisions in the areas of patient care delivery human resource management and budgetary development and compliance.
Responsibilities:
Consistently applies the corporate values of respect honesty and fairness and the constant pursuit of excellence in improving the health status of the people of the region through the provision of customer-friendly geographically accessible and high-value services within the environment of a comprehensive integrated academic health system. Is responsible for knowing and acting in accordance with the principles of the Brown University Health Corporate Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.
Establishes and communicates department policies procedures and expectations to staff. Develops department policies that are consistent with those of BHMG ensuring compliance with all regulatory agencies and that achieve department goals and objectives.
Demonstrates competency individually and as part of the team in performing clinical care and assessment of patients. Assists with direct patient care demonstrating maturity and discretion when interacting with patients.
Defines and resolves clinical and operational issues and maintains associated documentation. Investigates and resolves patient care management problems reporting issues and outcomes to Director. Maintains documentation and statistical data on operations as required by management and regulatory agencies. Evaluates service area periodically to identify problems assess need for new or expanded services and makes appropriate recommendations for improvement and annual development.
Effectively manages human resources. Participates in interview and selection of RN and Medical Assistant staff. Provides orientation oversight for new RN and Medical Assistant Staff. Ensures that employees receive adequate department specific training to thoroughly understand job expectations. Performs annual performance evaluations within required timeframe providing employee with constructive feedback and assisting in establishing appropriate goals. Effectively handles employee issues according to HR policies such as employee disputes and performance problems; develops performance improvement plans.
Provides oversight of provider schedule templates. Ensures patient schedules are appropriately supported by RN and Medical Assistant staff. Oversees patient access to care appointment availability and efficient daily operations. Functions as resource to staff to clarify schedules and practice administrative processes.
Develops and provides in-service education programs for RN and Medical Assistant staff. Designs in-service education programs utilizing appropriate teaching tools and modifies program as needed to effectively train staff. Evaluates and tracks results for each program.
Performs administrative duties such as planning and budgeting. Assists in establishing annual budget; monitors expenditures to ensure compliance. Researches significant variances. Appropriately budgets and coordinates purchase of major equipment.
Implements and monitors status of short and long term operational plans to achieve established goals interacting with other managers on a regular basis for planning and coordination of goals and objectives.
May schedule monthly clinical staff meetings to review objectives. Reviews monitors and updates operational plans with the Clinical Manager Director and physician as needed.
Maintains required records reports and statistics for administrative purposes and regulatory audits such as RI DOH.
Initiates and participates in Quality Assurance and Patient Safety activities
Provides oversight for functional reliability of equipment. Refers more complex problems to appropriate vendors for resolution.
Travel required to satellite offices to provide clinical oversight.
Protects and preserves patient and employee right to confidentiality.
Performs other duties as assigned.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
BSN with current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island or in the nurses primary state of legal residency if that state is a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact. Conformity to the Code of Professional Nurses.
Understanding of the provisions of the Nurse Practice Act of the state of Rhode Island. Current BLS required.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE:
Three or more years of progressively responsible clinical experience and demonstrated basic management skills and to function as a resource to the clinical staff (RN and Medical Assistant).
Familiarity with specific practice type office procedures and terminology highly preferred. Must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills and effective prioritization and organizational skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals physicians offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use safety equipment and protective clothing.
Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day. May be exposed to electrical and energy hazards. May lift and position patients and lift supplies up to 50 pounds
INPEPENDENT ACTION:
Incumbent functions independently within a broad scope of department policies and practices generally refer specific problems to supervisor only where clarification of departmental policies and procedures may be required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsibility for up to 25 FTEs.
