The Lactation Coordinator is a RN certified in Lactation and is a role model in patient education and support. Working collaboratively with the health care team, she will assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for nursing mothers, guide and develop program for nursing personnel, collaborate with health care professionals, coordinate program activities and demonstrate professional growth and development.
Responsibilities:
- Major Activities:
- Accountable for the delivery of quality patient care utilizing the nursing process in Women's Care Center, Labor & Delivery, NBICU, Pediatrics, and ER. May also be called to any department or unit with a need for lactation services for their patient.
- Clinical Practice:
- Serves as a clinical resource to nursing personnel, patients and their families, and health care professionals.
- Professional Development:
- Establishes professional goals and plans for achieving these goals.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION: Appropriate combination of: RN, BSN, APRN, PA or demonstrated experience and skill Nursing Certification in Lactation (IBCLC).
EXPERIENCE: 2-3 years clinical experience in specialty area.
LICENSURE: Maintain current RN, APRN, or PA licensure in State of Connecticut; current IBCLC certification: BLS & NRP also required.
SPECIAL SKILLS: Ability to possess leadership role in a mature and sympathetic attitude to be sensitive to the new mothers at Bridgeport Hospital.
PHYSICAL DEMAND: Standing/walking, frequent bending, reaching, stooping, squatting positions. Helps lift heavy objects and patients ranging from five (5) to three hundred (300) pounds with assistance from staff and using appropriate lifting techniques and/or equipment. May be exposure to infectious diseases.
Additional Information: 1-3 years related exp preferred, IBCLC required as well as BLS and NRP.
