Position Highlights:
Your family-centered care approach and knowledge of growth and development and pathophysiology specific to neonates will be employed to assess, plan, teach, intervene, and evaluate appropriately. The NICU nurse is skilled in procedures and use of equipment specifically designed for this patient population. The NICU RN is responsible for level III and level II care of infants admitted to NICU.
The NICU utilizes a Family Integrated Care (FIC) model where parents are educated and encouraged to partner with the team in the care of their baby, with support from the interdisciplinary care team. As active Vermont Oxford Network participants, we are dedicated to quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and research, as these elements are crucial to our culture of quality and safety.
In the NICU, we have an average census of 12, but it can go up to 16-18. For patient to nurse ratios, a level III RN usually has 1-2 and a level II RN has 2-3. We staff 7 RN's per shift and have a full resuscitation team with an MD, NNP, and RT.
