Responsible for the daily management of 5 synthetic chemists and scientists and new product development for waterborne polymers. This person will sit at Breen Technical Center until the group is relocated to Brecksville.
Job duties include contact with other employees and access to confidential and proprietary information, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. Leadership
- Assign projects and goals to the team.
- Give overall guidance and written performance reviews to the team members.
- Coach team members on projects, teamwork, communication, and safety.
Business Management
- Manage multiple projects, timelines, and priority shifts within the group.
- Liaison with Polymer quality/technical service to solve customer issues/complaints.
Safety and Quality
- Maintain safe operating procedures through complete knowledge of safety rules and lab procedures.
- Ensure and reinforce Safety, Housekeeping, and GBMS practices.
- Oversee chemical inventory, SDS, and chemical hygiene plan compliance.
- Identify and address quality issues through implementation of product or process improvements.
- Balance a personal project load with those of the team.
- Individually perform specialized tasks requiring a high level of chemistry and polymer expertise.
- Read and interpret relevant technical information, examine new product concepts and technology, and determine how to improve or utilize technology to develop product lines.
Communication
- Directly communicate with stakeholders, including hosting quarterly project review meetings.
- Maintain monthly report for group activities.
- Effectively communicate projects and deliverables to the team.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
- Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math field.
- Supervisory or mentoring experience.
- Project leadership/management.
- Minimum of 5 years of waterborne polymer synthesis.
- Experience in a variety of polymer chemistries with a heavy focus on latex synthesis.
- Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's Degree or higher in a polymer science related area.
- High level of initiative and leadership ability.
- Excellent organization and planning skills.
- Proven problem solving and decision making skills and abilities.
- Polymer scale-up and commercialization experience.
Travel Requirements: 10%
Upon completion of construction, the individual selected for this role will primarily work at the new Sherwin-Williams Global Technology Center in Brecksville, Ohio. Construction is expected to be complete in Q4 2024. Until then, the role will be based at Breen Technology Center, located at 601 Canal Road, Cleveland, OH 44113.
