Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant

Provides primary and episodic care to patients – independently and in collaboration with other medical professionals. Provide high-quality care services to patients of all ages, including but not limited to diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic medical conditions. Emphasize health promotion and/or disease prevention through patient education and coordination of care. Follows regulations and guidelines for writing prescriptions.
Responsibilities:
- Perform complete physical exams and assessments of patients including urgent, emergent, and non-urgent presentation.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including prescription medications and referrals to specialists when necessary.
- Select, order, and perform tests and procedures to augment physical findings.
- Define/document differential diagnoses and list differential diagnoses with most likely diagnoses included.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as deemed necessary and appropriate for plan of care, in collaboration with supervising physician as indicated.
- Interpret data and diagnostic results for appropriate course of action including but not limited to laboratory, radiology, EKG, etc. in collaboration with supervising physician as indicated.
- Perform duties in accordance with the customary rules of ethics and conduct of the applicable State Board of Medicine and other such regulating bodies.
- Educate patients and family members on health conditions, preventive care, and prescribed medications.
- Maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards.
- Exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive, complex and confidential patient issues and situations.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, in accordance with HIPAA regulations and best practices.
- Actively participate in community events and initiatives to promote health and wellness, and to build relationships with patients and community members.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:- Effectively communicate with physicians, employees, patients, and families.
- Flexibility with work schedule.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a high volume, fast-paced environment.
- Skilled in traditional nursing disciplines of patient assessment and management.
- Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program or an accredited Advance Nurse Practitioner Program.
- Current, unrestricted licensure in the State of Texas as a Physician Assistant or Advance Nurse Practitioner.
- Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
- DEA license with no restrictions.
- Preferred 2-3 years’ experience in an urgent care and/or primary care setting.
Physical Requirements:- Candidate must be able to read, write and speak English fluently, have cognitive skills for math, reading, filing and sterile technique skills.
- Vision for near, mid-range, far and accommodation. Hearing for low, medium, and high pitch.
- Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or more. Requires standing, frequent walking, sitting, crouching, kneeling, reaching above and below the waist.
- Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
- Job risk includes exposure to blood and body fluids (high) and exposure to infectious disease.
Conditions of Employment:- Must be accredited per clinic policies and procedures if billing for services under Medicare/ Medicaid.
- May be required to submit an annual TB screening.
- Hepatitis vaccination will be provided; candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
