POSITION SUMMARY: The Respiratory Care Extern (RCE) position is available to individuals enrolled as students in good standing in an approved respiratory therapy educational program. The RCE administers, monitors and provides objective measurement for basic respiratory care procedures under the direct supervision and control of the Director of Respiratory Care, the Respiratory Clinical Supervisor, and the Training Supervisor as identified on the STUDENT EXTERN TEMPORARY PERMIT. The extent of the clinical work done by the RCE will be at the discretion of the Director of Respiratory Care, Respiratory Clinical Supervisor, and Training Supervisor as identified on the STUDENT EXTERN TEMPORARY PERMIT.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The RCE must be continuously enrolled in good standing in a CoArc approved respiratory care education program.
EDUCATION: The RCE must have be currently enrolled in a CoArc approved Respiratory Therapy program.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Upon receipt of an offer, the RCE must obtain a STUDENT EXTERN TEMPORARY PERMIT from the NMRLD within 30 days of hire. The STUDENT EXTERN TEMPORARY PERMIT should include the following: application, permit fee, Employment Verification Statement Form, Training Supervisor's Agreement Form, and Letter of Good Standing from the Respiratory Therapy Program they are enrolled in. The RCE must have a valid New Mexico Respiratory Care Temporary Student Extern Permit at all times. Upon graduation, the RCE must obtain their Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) Credential and New Mexico RCP License within 90 days as a condition of continued employment and further promotion to a staff Respiratory Therapy position. The RCE must maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and obtain Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued through the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.
SKILLS: Manual dexterity to provide respiratory therapy and operate equipment.
EXPERIENCE: Completion of first year within the respiratory therapy program.
NATURE OF SUPERVISION: Responsible to: Director of Respiratory Care, Respiratory Clinical Supervisor, and Training Supervisor as identified on the STUDENT EXTERN TEMPORARY PERMIT.
