The Department of History at Seton Hall University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Modern and/or Early Modern South Asian History. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in the Fall 2025 and pending budgetary approval. A Ph.D. degree by the time of employment is required. An ideal candidate should be comfortable in a student-centered environment and demonstrate a strong scholarly record and/or potential. The field of expertise is open, but we are particularly interested in scholars engaging with the histories of gender, colonialism, or transnationalism (especially as relevant to the Indian Ocean world). A successful candidate will be teaching in the field/s/ of their respective expertise but will also be expected to teach our World History surveys and departmental courses. The standard teaching load is 3 - 3. We have expectations for our faculty to perform important service duties for the department, college, and university at large.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Research and publishing
- Teaching a 3 - 3 load (18 credits per academic year), including courses in the field of expertise, World History surveys, and departmental courses
- Active engagement in service assignments on the departmental, college, and university levels
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. by the time of employment
- Active research agenda, record of peer-review publications or scholarly promise
- Evidence of teaching excellence, especially in a student-centered environment
- Ability to balance substantial teaching load with research and service
