Acute Medicine is an exciting and essential pillar of urgent care at UHBW. We have ambitious plans to grow the service at the BRI, including the expansion and development of our Acute Medical Unit, Same Day Emergency Care Unit, and optimising clinical pathways.
Recruitment and retention premium up to £20,000 including an initial welcome bonus.
Relocation allowance and support up to £8,000.
Negotiable job plans up to a maximum of 12 PAs.
Ability to pursue specialist interests e.g. research, teaching, leadership, split job plans, and cross-specialty working.

Our service comprises a 39 bedded Acute Medical Unit, Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit, and the management of the Medical Take, working closely with colleagues in various specialties.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership and direction for the multi-professional team in managing acute medical patients. Responsibilities include leading ward rounds, directing patient management, performing practical procedures, teaching staff, attending multidisciplinary meetings, participating in governance activities, and liaising with other professionals.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Acute Medicine includes:
- 36 inpatient bedded Acute Medical Unit on Ward A400 with clinical leadership by two consultants.
- Medical Same Day Emergency Unit running 7 days a week.
- Leadership of the Acute Medical Take with management of referrals and on-call junior team.
Person specification
Qualifications & Training
- Full and specialist registration in either AIM or GIM with the GMC.
- Eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview.
- Higher academic qualification e.g. MD, PhD, or equivalent.
Experience
- Evidence of thorough training and experience in acute medicine.
- Able to deliver service without direct supervision.
- Evidence of a special interest consistent with the Trust’s service strategy.
Clinical Knowledge and Skills
- Up-to-date knowledge and experience of relevant specialty.
- Knowledge of NHS priorities.
- Broad range of IT skills.
Clinical Governance and Audit
- Understanding of clinical governance responsibilities.
- Knowledge of clinical audit principles.
- Positive approach to evidence-based practice.
- Participation in CPD schemes.
Research
- Knowledge of research principles.
- Evidence of involvement in research.
- Evidence of peer-reviewed research papers.
Teaching and Training
- Experience of teaching medical students and supervising trainees.
- Knowledge of teaching to a multidisciplinary team.
- Formal teaching qualification.
Interpersonal, Communication and Team Working Skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.
- Good knowledge of spoken and written English.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships.
