The R&D Discovery and Technology Futures group at IDEXX is looking for a motivated and creative Protein Scientist to be at the forefront of biomarker discovery for the next generation of IDEXX products. The successful candidate will thrive in a dynamic, multidisciplinary and collaborative setting.
In this role you will take part in the design, purification, and characterization of protein targets identified as potential disease markers. You will employ a variety of techniques ranging from biochemistry and molecular biology to modeling protein structures and bioinformatics. Outputs of this position will directly support the development of novel immunoassays and overall improvement of our current products. You will join a group of highly talented, technically focused individuals working together to identify solutions to complex challenges.
What you can expect:
- Devises appropriate purification strategies for a variety of proteins expressed in both mammalian and bacterial culture.
- Utilizes biochemical and molecular biology techniques to characterize protein properties and purity.
- Leverages published literature to identify novel protein design and purification technologies.
- Collaborates with internal partners to design experiments and develop processes that facilitate efficient, thorough, and accurate analysis of protein targets of interest.
- Mentors team members on protocols for optimizing protein design and purification.
- Generates clear, concise presentations and communicates progress updates to cross-functional audiences.
- Contributes to strategic assay development in alignment with business needs, timelines, and priorities.
- Documents experiments and maintains accurate electronic records.
- Maintains knowledge of products and procedures, developments in the field and industry. Adheres to appropriate procedures and regulatory requirements.
- May participate in conferences, webinars and seminars to continue to develop knowledgebase.
What you need to succeed:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in biochemistry/molecular biology or related discipline with 5-7 years of experience in protein biochemistry.
- Experience in protein chromatography utilizing AKTA FLPC instruments (or similar instrument).
- Experience in standard protein characterization and molecular biology techniques (e.g. SDS-PAGE, analytical SEC, Western blotting, PCR).
- Knowledge of multiple recombinant protein expression systems (bacterial and mammalian systems preferred).
- Familiarity with protein structure visualization software (e.g. PyMOL).
- Working knowledge of predictive protein modeling software is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively towards a unifying set of goals.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills are a must.
- Organizational skills and ability to plan work is a must.
- Takes initiative and is accountable; focuses on the task at hand; detail-oriented.
- Adaptable to priorities and able to quickly pivot between multiple projects; works well under pressure.
