General Purpose of Job:
This position is eligible for benefits. Hours are 35 hrs/wk mid-Aug through mid-May and 10 hrs/wk (flexible) during the summer.
Perform laboratory preparation for all chemistry, physics, and physical science courses, order chemicals, keep a chemical inventory and other duties specified by the department.
Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the chemistry labs.

Essential Functions of Job:
To perform laboratory preparation for chemistry, physics and physical science laboratories
To supervise work-study students
To be the Chemical Hygiene Officer for Grand View
Collection and proper disposal of all waste generated in chemistry and physics, and physical science courses
To work with chemistry, physics and physical science instructors to prepare necessary laboratory chemicals, media and glassware/hardware for laboratory courses
To perform additional jobs as specified by the department, as needed
Qualifications and Requirements:
Bachelor-s degree in chemistry and previous experience working in a chemistry laboratory are preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Background in safety and previous experience in a role as a Chemical Hygiene officer is preferred
Experience with instrument maintenance is desirable
Must possess basic math and problem-solving skills
Familiarity with personal computers, experience with Microsoft Excel is beneficial
Ability to perform duties in a manner that emphasizes safety, quality, integrity, and dependability
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work with work-study students and department members in a collaborative manner
Working Conditions:
The ability to lift small loads (no more than 25 lbs.)
The ability to occasionally lift 50 pounds.
The ability to identify appropriate personal protective equipment necessary to ensure laboratory safety
The ability to safely handle chemicals and chemical waste
