Job Title: Educator
Status: Part Time (School Year); Full Time (School Vacation and Summer)
Reports To: Director/ Site Coordinator
Greenwood Shalom is a faith-based, academically focused program serving children in Boston.
Salary: $16.50 to $19.50 depending on experience
General Function: An educator will represent Greenwood personally and professionally in accordance with its mission and goals. The educator will implement program activities for children, fostering spiritual, social, academic, and emotional growth while adhering to the policies and regulations set forth by Greenwood Shalom After School Program and the Department of Early Education and Care.
Job Criteria:
- High School diploma and 3-6 months of direct care experience with school-aged children OR Bachelor’s degree in Education and 3 months of direct care experience with school-aged children.

- First Aid/CPR certification within 6 months of hire date.
- Ability to work with and understand the needs of children from a variety of backgrounds.
- Must be a positive role model and maintain a motivational, energetic attitude.
- Required CORI and DFC check and fingerprint.
- Current physical exam in the past year (Immunization record).
Responsibilities:
- Provide a warm, safe environment for all children, emphasizing personal safety and wellbeing.
- Use positive methods of behavior management that stress teaching, not punishment.
- Develop positive rapport and communication with children, parents, and staff.
- Attend monthly staff meetings and trainings as required.
- Act as an academic resource to students and parents by reviewing homework and providing support.
- Report accidents immediately and assist with necessary documentation.
- Implement activities that foster creativity and cultural and academic awareness.
- Help students understand key concepts learned in the classroom.
- Teach skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies.
- Demonstrate academic best practices for specific subjects and assignments.
- Conduct practice tests to track progress and help set goals for exam preparation.
- Provide students with positive and constructive feedback.
- Offer feedback on progress to students’ parents and teachers where appropriate.
- Commit to supporting students' academic, social, and emotional success throughout the summer.
- Assess students' unique needs and assist the Site Coordinator in their academic portfolios.
- Perform other duties as required by the Director.
General Management:
- Provide a warm, safe, and faith-centered environment for all children.
- Develop positive rapport and continuous communication with staff, parents, and school administrators.
Program Management:
- Complete and execute a lesson plan for every activity.
- Post daily schedules for students, parents, and community partners.
- Provide direction to volunteers.
- Implement program schedules.
- Oversee the use of the computer lab and other equipment.
- Keep track of soft materials and hard equipment.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assume other activities and responsibilities as directed by the Program Director.
- Work with the Program Director in developing a Calendar of Events.
- Stay updated on trends in the Out-of-School Time field and education.
- Collaborate with the Program Director to update program goals and evaluate using EEC QRIS guidelines.
Education:
- Associate degree in a related field of education and at least one (1) year of direct school-age childcare experience; or
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education and six (6) months of direct school-age childcare experience; or
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and six (6) months of direct care with school-age children.
- First Aid/CPR certification within 6 months of hire date.
- Experience working with urban youth with academic and behavioral challenges.

- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and regulations.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups.
- Knowledge of basic computer skills, Zoom, Class Dojo, and Google Classroom is a must.
Working Conditions:
- Physical Demands: Long hours sitting or standing; may require lifting of supplies (up to 25 lbs).
- Environmental Demands: May be interrupted frequently and may find the environment busy and noisy.
- Sensory Demands: Use of the computer may cause eyestrain; the office may be noisy.
- Mental: May deal with a stressful environment due to multiple learning activities.
