DescriptionUnder the general direction of Clinical Manager, individual performs a variety of duties supporting the daily operations of the Breast Imaging Division.Responsibilities include and are not limited to performing in the Resource role as the lead for the daily workflow, exam room set-up, room turnover, supply inventory management support and room stocking.Individual will ensure that the department areas are adequately stocked and prepared to treat Breast Imaging patients each day. The individual may be asked to perform a variety of tasks to assist in the daily workflow including transportation of patients, greeting and escorting patients within Breast Imaging areas and across hospital departments. Individual must have the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and work well within a group setting.
*Follows all hospital and departmental policies and procedures including correctly identifying patients by name and date of birth
*Works effectively under pressure and provides leadership and guidance for new and/or fellow staff members
*Performs and oversees day to day workflow of technical staff and allocates tasks as needed
*Acts as team leader under the direction of the Breast Imaging management assigning day-to-day rotations for all technical and medical assistant staff
*Works with Clinical Manager, Materials Management and other internal suppliers as necessary to stay informed of product updates, stock and product changes.Oversees the department's stock supplies (monitoring and replenishment) including custom instrument packs, sterile instruments and linen; maintaining non-stock supplies as needed
*Obtains stretchers or wheelchairs for patient procedures as needed
*Maintains aseptic conditions preparing patients for procedures and participating in cases
*Uses appropriate protection from all hazardous materials (blood borne pathogens, radiation, etc.) as stated by unit policy and hospital authorization
*Assists radiologists/physicians, technologists and nurses as necessary during exams
*Performs/assists with patient transport
*Performs lab specimen transport to and from the Breast Imaging department in a timely manner and is responsible for ensuring all specimens have been delivered from Breast Imaging at the end of each day
*Communicates information needed for continuity of care amongst caregivers from one shift to another
*Assists with workflow continuity performing real-time patient flow assessments and delegating tasks as needed to all technical staff
*Assists with employee equipment and system training under the direction of Breast Imaging management
*Communicates all issues regarding staffing, equipment, or patients immediately to Breast Imaging management
*Acts as a liaison between technical assistants, technologists, staff assistants, nurses, radiologists and referring provider community. Responsible for printing daily patient schedules upon request
*Assigns lunches and breaks to staff under the direction of Breast Imaging management.
*Plans and coordinates with the daily assigned technologist for the re-allocation of staff assignments if needed
*Responsible for following-up on voicemail or pager messages
*Assists and performs the pre-screening process of future patients, confirming the correct order/exam based off the patient's history and quoting appropriate arrival time to patients
*Ensures all forms to be used for daily business are accessible and stocked for all staff
*Oversees and ensures cleanliness of the patient waiting, sub-waiting, changing and imaging areas
*Utilizes appropriate MGB safety reporting and assists staff with using tool for patient and safety issues as needed
*Delegates and follows all departmental guidelines for out of state, island, international, and VIP patient imaging
*Participates in the rescheduling of Breast Imaging patients when required
*Assist technologists with moving of patients when needed
Guides the daily workflow of the BI team as department Resource position including changes to daily assignments and responsibilities into appropriate areas where coverage and support is needed
Assist Radiologists/Technologists as needed to include patient prep for ultrasound exams, input of patient demographics into imaging equipment and room turnover tasks
Maintain a clean and safe working environment
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
- Associate's degree preferred
- Minimum of 2 years healthcare experience required
- Demonstrates professionalism and courtesy to all patients and staff with the ability to calmly manage stressful situations
- Ability to work with all staff members
- Knowledge and ability of prioritizing tasks associated with patient care and workflow
