Summary:
Provides clinical administrative nursing care coordination in support of an inpatient, hospital-based patient care area. Duties include one or more of the following: care coordination, discharge planning, data analysis and performance metrics, and patient/staff education.
Responsibilities:
- Acts as liaison between Rex staff and management and audiology professionals in the community.
- Collaborates with other team leaders and management to ensure optimal efficiency throughout the Women's Center.
- Oversees proper working of all hearing screening equipment and inventory of supplies, and communicates needed repairs to bio-medical department.
- Performs hearing screenings as needed and oversees daily hearing screenings performed by staff and volunteers.
- Serves as general contact for abnormal metabolic screenings and rejections in communicating with lab, nursery and primary providers.
- Collaborates with Nurse Manager to ensure efficient and adequate staffing for all of Parent/Prenatal and Lactation staff.
- Corresponds with primary care providers and infant caregivers in regards to repeat screenings, referrals for diagnostic testing, refusals for testing, and education regarding hearing screenings and hearing loss.
- Effectively uses clinical and financial information to assist Nurse Manager to establish and meet budgetary goals.
- Initiates outpatient appointment in the EMR and Hearing Link, notifies admissions of outpatient screenings and submits reported results into Hearing Link and HIM for entry into the electronic medical record.
- Oversees the organization and compliance of the UNC REX Healthcare newborn hearing screening program. Serves as liaison between UNC REX Healthcare and the State of North Carolina Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Program, local audiology practice providing oversight to the hearing screening program and other coordinators, community agencies and practices involved in newborn hearing screening programs. Communicates with EHDI regarding program staff changes, compliance and participation in EHDI Program site visits.
- Submits all state mandated infant screening data daily to the state EHDI program via Hearing Link for quarterly and annual EHDI Quality Assurance reporting. Responsible for quality of hearing screening program, monitoring quality metrics from EHDI and implementing necessary changes for improvement. Meet annually with the NC EHDI representatives to review program guidelines and quality measures.
- Provides oversight and training of Women's and Children's volunteers in the hearing screening program. Coordinates schedules and manages all interactions with W&C Volunteers ensuring adequate coverage for hearing screening.
- Reviews and updates hearing screening policy and associated educational materials as needed.
- Assist in the facilitation of maternity tours.
- Assist in the coordination of prenatal programming for the community.
Other Information
Education Requirements:
* Graduation from a state-accredited school of professional nursing.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
* Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina. Requires previous experience in the specialized inpatient patient-care area assigned.
Professional Experience Requirements:
* Five (5) years of professional nursing experience.
