UCI Beall Applied Innovation's purpose is to measurably improve lives through access to UCI-developed knowledge. We partner with researchers and industry to move UCI knowledge and discoveries into products and markets. With this goal, we collaborate closely with faculty/researchers, industry, and entrepreneurs to carry out a variety of projects and programs with four pillars of BAI's operation teams: Research Translation, New Ventures, Enterprise Collaborations, and Industry Sponsored Research. BAI is currently located at UCI Research Park. Our physical building, known as the COVE, provides office space for BAI staff, offers sublease space for emerging UCI ecosystem start-ups, and provides a venue for programs and events engineered to enable university-industry collaboration.
Your Role on the TeamUnder general direction of the Director of Facilities at UCI Beall Applied Innovation (BAI), the incumbent is responsible for the design, construction, and implementation of the BAI Prototyping Lab Space, including overseeing and managing the development and layout of the facility, comprehensive long-range strategic planning, budget development and fund utilization, resource identification, and generation of resources. These tasks involve leadership, management, training of various users, outreach, and involvement in Beall Applied Innovation communications. The incumbent oversees daily operations of one laboratory facility totaling approximately 2,100 square feet, including providing technical support and advice to users. There are also additional labs requiring some oversight regarding EH&S policies. The incumbent leads troubleshooting of instruments, solving design issues, and developing detailed laboratory processes. As the liaison to faculty, students, and external start-ups, the incumbent represents Beall Applied Innovation at informational sessions, campuswide committees (e.g. EH&S, Purchasing, etc.), and other higher education institutions.

- Required: Working knowledge of practices and procedures relating to facility maintenance.
- Required: Written communication skills to prepare a variety of correspondence, reports, policies and procedures, and training documents.

- Required: Skills to work independently and as part of a team.
- Required: Working organizational skills to work on multiple projects with competing deadlines, to establish goals and workload priorities, and to meet project deadlines within budget and time constraints.
- Required: Working knowledge of practices and procedures of safety and emergency preparedness.
- Required: Knowledge and experience with hydraulic, high-pressure gas, mechanical, and electrical laboratory equipment systems. Ability to maintain and repair laboratory equipment.
- Required: Knowledge of equipment maintenance, facilities planning, and/or laboratory safety. Hands-on experience in mechanical design. Hands-on experience in chemistry labs.
- Required: Ability to read and interpret chemical Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Required: Ability to use judgment, discretion, and confidentiality in dealing with sensitive issues/information.
- Preferred: Experience with HVAC systems, building and split systems. Experience designing and building highly technical laboratory space.
- Preferred: Experience troubleshooting in a laboratory facility, including instrumentation level design work.
- Preferred: Ability to troubleshoot and repair laboratory instrumentation.
- Preferred: Ability to translate technical needs into practical instrumentation with appropriate documentation.
- Preferred: Ability to take initiative to explore new concepts or develop new approaches for the laboratory experience.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $31.67- $39.38 (Hourly).
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred:
- 1-3 years of experience working in experimental test laboratories, ordering supplies, purchasing equipment, and communicating with vendors.
