JOB TITLE: US Government Affairs Leader – North America
JOB SUMMARY
The Government Affairs & Public Policy Leader– North America, is responsible for supporting the development and execution of the organization’s government affairs strategy within North America. This role focuses on building and maintaining relationships with political and policy stakeholders at the federal, state, and local levels. The Leader will ensure that Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies is positioned as a key stakeholder in policy issues of importance to our business in North America.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Support the Development and Execution of Regional Government Affairs Strategy: Assist in developing and implementing a coherent government affairs strategy for North America, aligned with Terumo BCT’s business objectives.
- Implement Government Affairs Plans and Projects: Manage and execute specific Government Affairs projects in collaboration with other functions to ensure alignment with regional business priorities.
- Policy Analysis and Stakeholder Engagement: Provide analysis and recommendations on government policies affecting Terumo BCT’s operations. Engage with key stakeholders to represent the company’s interests. Support the creation and execution of an engagement program for senior leaders at Terumo BCT to interact with key policymakers within North America.
- Stakeholder Mapping and Engagement: Develop and maintain a detailed map of key policy stakeholders, including government officials, industry influencers, and key opinion leaders. Design and implement tailored engagement strategies to effectively communicate Terumo BCT’s positions and priorities.
- Proactive Issue Management: Anticipate and identify potential policy or regulatory issues that could impact the business. Develop and implement proactive strategies to mitigate risks and manage emerging issues.
- Internal Collaboration: Work closely with relevant internal teams to ensure integration of government affairs activities into broader business strategies and operations.
- Internal Education: Educate and brief internal stakeholders on key government affairs issues, ensuring they are informed and prepared for potential impacts on business operations. This includes preparing leadership for interactions with government officials.
- Reporting and Metrics: Develop and track metrics to measure the success of government affairs initiatives. Provide regular updates and reports to leadership, demonstrating the impact and value of government affairs activities.
- Reporting and Communication: Regularly update internal leadership on government affairs activities, progress, and emerging policy issues. Prepare briefing materials to support consistent messaging during external engagements.
- Trade Association Representation: Represent Terumo BCT on relevant Government Affairs committees within industry trade associations, ensuring alignment with the company’s policy goals.
EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS:
- Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with political stakeholders, including representatives at federal, state, and local levels, to communicate Terumo BCT’s perspectives on relevant policy issues.
- Network Development: Build and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders, including government representatives, advisors, and committee members, to influence policy development in areas critical to Terumo BCT.
- Event Facilitation: Collaborate with external stakeholders to identify areas of mutual interest and support the organization of events and meetings to further Terumo BCT’s government affairs objectives.
- Knowledge Building: Maintain and internally distribute expertise in relevant policy areas by attending political events, conferences, and other industry-related activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Experience:
- Minimum 8 years of experience in government affairs, public policy, or a related field, preferably within the pharmaceutical, medical technology, or healthcare industry.
- Proven experience in government advocacy, public affairs, or lobbying, with a solid understanding of government policy, reimbursement and regulatory processes in North America.

- Business Acumen: Understanding of industry trends and the healthcare ecosystem in North America.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage with internal and external stakeholders.
- Integrity: High ethical standards and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
PHYSICAL AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Typical Office Environment requirements include: reading, speaking, hearing, close vision, bending, sitting, and occasional lifting up to 20 pounds.
- Travel: Frequent visits to Washington DC and/or Lakewood (CO) are needed. This role includes up to 20% of travel.

Target Pay Range: $143,800.00 to $179,700.00 - Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Target Bonus on Base: 20.0%
