Position Highlights:
- Floating Locations: Linden Oaks Hospital (Naperville) and Nursing Homes
- Part Time: 0.5 FTE
- Hours: 5am-9am Monday-Friday; Includes holiday rotation
A Brief Overview:
The Phlebotomist obtains blood and other specimens for laboratory testing via venipuncture, finger sticks, heel sticks and other specimen collection methods.
What you will do:
- Verifies patient identification and explains blood drawing procedure to patients in order to allay fears and elicit cooperation.
- Collects blood samples for specific tests ensuring volume is adequate and correct tubes are utilized. Labels all specimens appropriately with the correct label. Complies with blood minimization policies and procedures as appropriate.
- Cleans and stocks patient phlebotomy stations/carts and other work areas and ensures all supplies have current expiration dates.
- Prepares, processes, handles, stores and packages specimens appropriately. Centrifuges specimens and transfers specimens into tubes or other designated containers as necessary. Accurately administers appropriate reagents for glucose and D-xylose tests
- Maintains all records such as: logs, workload records, requisitions, etc. accurately and in a neat and organized manner.
- Answers telephone and responds to inquiries from doctors, patients, and/or Hospital personnel according to established policies and procedures.
What you will need:
- Current CPR BLS issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- HS Diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license and Auto Insurance
