Job Summary:
The Medical Technologist (MT/CLS)/Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs routine and complex analytical tests on human body fluids to provide accurate data to the health care team to aid in the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of disease states. The MT/MLT is capable of performing tests in all the clinical areas provided to include Phlebotomy, Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis and specimen processing.

-.8 FTE - 32 hours per week
- Monday - Friday: 1PM - 8PM
Essential Job Functions:
• Follows the laboratory’s procedure for proper specimen collection and handling, paying close attention to proper patient identification, priority status, and hospital and laboratory safety and infection control policies
• Performs routine testing of in vitro biologic specimens according to the standard operating procedures established and instrument use. Reports results in a timely manner
• Correlates clinical information and/ or previous lab results and reports discrepancies to Laboratory manager or designee. Consults with pathologist when no present criterion for decision making is available
• Follows the laboratories established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratories established acceptable levels of performance
• Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration procedures related to each test performed
• Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed
• Participates in proficiency testing and job competency /skills check program
• Maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples
• Reviews laboratory procedures under supervision as required
• Attends and participates in continuing education programs to expand current knowledge and enhance professional excellence. Willing share knowledge and provide clinical orientation to other members of the staff
• Serves as a technical resource by participating in staff training
• Adheres to confidentiality, compliance and legal requirements
• Maintains open communication with laboratory manager, pathologists, and other staff members to ensure optimal operation of the department
• Regular and prompt work-site attendance
• Other duties as they are assigned
Qualifications, Knowledge & Ability: - Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
- Bachelor degree in Medical Technology (MT)/Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) or Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technicians related science from an accredited program
- Blood bank experience required
- Phlebotomy skills required
- Ortho Workstation and Ortho Optix experience preferred
- Current knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment, and Laboratory Information Systems
- 2 years of related experience is preferred
- Computer literate
- Ability to relate and work effectively with others
- Ability to work independently
- Demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards
- Demonstrated problem solving skills
- Strong phlebotomy skills
- Previous experience in a hospital environment is preferred
- Is aware of professional standards and performs in accordance with them
