JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of the Pre-Op/PACU Director, the Pre-Operative nurse is responsible for implementing the Pre-Operative nursing assessment, nursing care plan, and the assimilation of the patient's hospital record. The Pre-Operative nurse is also responsible for implementing all physician orders, obtaining signatures on consents, providing for continuity and quality of nursing care for patients and ensuring that all documentation and teaching are complete. The Pre-Op nurse is responsible for implementing all physician orders, providing for the continuity and quality of nursing care for all patients with continual evaluation of the patients' condition, and providing patient safety, comfort, and privacy at all times. The Pre-Op nurse may assist the physician with various tasks, procedures, moderate sedation, and utilizes sterile technique as deemed appropriate.
Required Skills:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Minimum 2 years experience in a Preop/PACU or 1 year experience in ICU setting and Pre-op preferred, not required.
- Current Texas Nursing License
- Current BLS, ACLS and PALS or ENPC required
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to prioritize appropriately
- Ability to adapt to change quickly, strong knowledge base relative to surgical/invasive procedures and management of the surgical patient
- Understands principles of aseptic technique and their implementation
- Ability to care for patients from infancy to geriatrics
- Excellent teaching skills
- Basic knowledge of Performance Improvement methodology
- Participation in rotational on-call system as assigned
