Job Description
The Technologist- MRI performs interpretive, patient care, and technical functions with a strong focus on MRI Safety to ensure proper radiologic diagnosis of patients. This position participates in technical duties directly involved with MRI including developing, initiating, and monitoring procedures for the effective utilization of this unit. This position functions as the first line interface with customers in the successful accomplishment of their imaging needs.
Responsibilities
- Assists in care and maintenance of facilities, equipment, and supplies.
- Sets up and adjusts equipment per radiologist protocol for exam.
- Operates highly complex radiographic equipment within the radiology department.
- Relies on extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology to obtain the maximum diagnostic image corresponding to body parts.
- Receives and reviews requests for MRI's.
- Accepts patients and assesses their condition to determine proper handling and special requirements.
- Explains and prepares the patient for all MRI procedures.
- Possesses and utilizes proper aseptic technique and isolation procedures when appropriate.
- Assists in the administration and administers various medications under the direction of a physician in order to render specific organs or systems more opaque.
- Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the MR department to perform examinations.
- Assists with examination of higher complexity such as MR-guided biopsies, needle localizations, etc.
- Quality controls all images, maintains inventory, and adheres to safety regulations.
- Participates in training of department personnel, including students.
- Performs work of equal skill, effort, and responsibility as directed and may perform work of a higher level in preparation for increased responsibility.
- Performs various clerical duties.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
- Technical Diploma/Certificate Radiology Required
Licenses and Certifications
- BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required
- Registered Technologist - Magnetic Resonance Imaging (RTMR) within 120 Days Required
- Registered Technologist (ARRT) Upon Hire Preferred
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Competence in MRI safety.
- Possesses a high level of knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.
- Proficiency with most major MR equipment manufacturer's hardware and software.
- Must be able to multi-task daily.
- Knowledge of filing systems, telephone etiquette, and customer service.
- Computer skills.
- Medical terminology.
- Must be available for on-call status, as needed, after normal operating hours.
