DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of La Jolla Emergency General Surgery physicians, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) will provide patient care, support practice, and will also hold independent clinics to support EGS (Emergency General Surgery) patient care. Provides comprehensive history and physical exams; orders diagnostic test and follow up on these and other lab tests; triages phone calls; formulates a plan of care. Plans and implements treatment, teaching and/or support to patients and families. Provides consultation to other health and allied professionals to collaboratively assess patient care needs and treatment plans. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner program.
- California Registered Nurse (RN) license, California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license, and Furnishing License Certification.
- Current Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) Certification (AGACNP or ACNP).
- BLS and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six months of hire date.
- Minimum six (6) months of experience as a licensed Nurse Practitioner in general surgery, emergency surgery, trauma or surgical ICU.
- Ability to analyze and interpret medical data.
- Knowledge of medical record documentation procedures and patient confidentiality. Writing skills to prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data and progress notes, as well as policies, procedures and protocols for patient care management.
- Demonstrated proficiency in various computer software packages, including spreadsheets, databases, and word processing programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and basic medical equipment.
- Experience in recruiting for a clinical protocol and screening potentially eligible patients.
- Excellent organizational and problem solving skills.
- Knowledge of data collection, entry, and analysis.
- Experience in collecting accurate patient data.
- Ability to communicate clearly and accurately both verbally and in writing. Excellent interpersonal skills, using tact and diplomacy in order to interact effectively with all levels of professional staff and a diversity of patients. Skill in appropriate telephone techniques.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- First assist experience in the OR, seeing inpatient consults independently, post-op surgical patients and comfortable on a team of doctors, trainees at multiple levels and excellent communication skills with consulting services.
- NP experience in an outpatient surgery clinic.
- Ability to manage independent clinic with focus on postoperative wound and ostomy care and care coordination.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
- Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years gained through school or work experience.
- Current UCSD NPIII employees may be hired at the NPIII level pending review and approval by Health Human Resources and the UCSD Advanced Practice Council.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $158,187 - $221,370 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $75.76 - $106.02
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
