The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine (BUCASM) and Boston Medical Center (BMC) is seeking to hire a faculty member at the Assistant Professor level. The successful candidate will work within the division of Laboratory Medicine as an Assistant Director of the Clinical Chemistry laboratory, reporting to the Medical Director of Clinical Chemistry.
Applicants will assist in clinical test interpretation, sign-outs, and consultation with physicians and other health care providers. Applicants will be expected to provide clinical, technical, and regulatory experience in general chemistry, clinical toxicology, immunology, blood gases, and mass spectrometry at BMC. Responsibilities will also include, but not be limited to, quality management initiatives, protocol development, verifications, and supporting the Director and administrative team to ensure compliance with the regulatory requirements of College of American Pathologists (CAP), The Joint Commission & CLIA.
The Assistant Director will share call coverage with the Medical Director. Teaching of fellows, residents, and students and pursuit of clinical and/or translational research is expected. Candidates will have opportunities and support for research. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to hold two CLIA licenses for off-site laboratory services managed by BMC.
Minimum Qualification: MD or equivalent medical professional degree, certified in Clinical Pathology (or combined AP/CP) and board-eligible or specialty certified in Clinical Chemistry by the American Board of Pathology. Alternatively, PhD applicants must have completed a clinical chemistry fellowship and be eligible for certification in clinical chemistry by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry (ABCC). The candidate must be eligible to practice in the State of Massachusetts.

The main campus laboratory at 670 Albany Street, Boston, supports chemistry test needs for hospital inpatients and outpatients, as well as several offsite services, including local Community Health Centers. The clinical laboratory is a state-of-the-art 24/7/365 operation serving a global, diverse patient population, accredited by CAP.
