Our Batch and Furnace Supervisor is key to driving batch and furnace operations, managing raw material inventory and directing union team members within our glass manufacturing facility. If you are interested in leading a team towards world class through continuous improvement while maintaining safety and quality, this position will give you the opportunity to utilize both leadership and technical skills in a fast-paced glass manufacturing environment.
What You Will Do
- Monitors glass quality and color, in-house cullet levels and cullet quality, material bin levels and EP material bin.
- Serves as a liaison between Oxygen Plant Vendor and Gallo Glass, including interventions on evenings and weekends.
- Organizes semi-annual meeting between Oxygen Plant Vendor and Gallo Glass.
- Serves as a liaison between Cullet Vendor, Gallo Glass Quality, and Batch/Furnace Management.
- Makes regular visits to local cullet processing plants; works to drive quality.
- Communicates quality issues with vendor and implements solutions.
- Makes recommendations on cullet usage based on communication of quality results from vendor.
- Conducts monthly safety meetings and audits.
- Adjusts batch formulas to maintain glass quality and glass color.
- Writes scope of work for assigned projects; oversees contractor for progress.
- Oversees work performed around glass melting furnaces.
- Provides direction and instructions to raw materials handlers.
- Provides direction and instructions to furnace department coordinator and subordinates.
- Ensures GMP, safety and quality.
- Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations. If accountable for the work of others, responsible for ensuring their understanding and compliance.
What You Need
- Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of glass manufacturing, furnace, purchasing, supply chain OR logistics experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; or High School diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 7 years of glass manufacturing, furnace, purchasing, supply chain OR logistics experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
- Required to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
- Computer skills include: MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint at an intermediate level.
- Required to be 18 years or older. This may be in addition to other age requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.
What Will Set You Apart
- Bachelor's degree plus 5 years of glass manufacturing or furnace experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
- Skilled in reading, analyzing and interpreting common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.
- Skilled in responding to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.
- Skilled in writing speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
- Skilled in effectively presenting information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors.
- Skilled in applying advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations and permutations.
- Skilled in applying mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.
- Skilled in defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts and drawing solid conclusions.
- Skilled in interpreting an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Must possess and apply broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures in this area of specialization.
- Experienced in team building, leadership and mentoring.
- Experienced in learning new concepts quickly.
Compensation
- Hiring Salary Range Posted: $98,000 - $147,000 / year.
- Actual compensation paid within the range will be determined by factors such as the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
