The Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Research Center at the University of Virginia's (UVA) School of Medicine seeks candidates for a Lab Tech 2 to participate in studies of the role of clonal hematopoiesis in age-related diseases. This position provides scientific/technical support to a large cardiovascular research laboratory consisting of a mixture of graduate and undergraduate students, post-doctoral fellows, clinical fellows, and technical staff.
The tasks involve a combination of general laboratory management and the coordination of activities involving ultra-deep DNA sequencing to examine the associations between somatic mutations and disease features in patient cohorts.
Preferred experience includes:
- Management of complex research-based laboratory; protocol and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) development and maintenance.
- General biological procedures and techniques.
- Training of faculty and staff.
- Management of multiple programs and resources or a centralized/specialized core.
- Management of Quality Control and Good Laboratory Practices.
- Directing and validating compliance with IRB, GLP, EH&S and other local, federal or sponsor-driven regulations and policies.
- Expertise in analyzing next generation sequencing data and expertise in R and/or other programming language (e.g. python).
Minimum Requirements:
Education: Bachelor's degree
Experience: At least 1-2 years of lab experience, which may include student experience. A Bachelor's degree in related science will be considered in lieu of experience.
Preferred knowledge skills and abilities:
- Self-guided and creative in seeking possible solutions to experimental/design challenges.
- Strong communication skills.
- Experience working with laboratory animals.
This is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance.
