Job Summary
Accountable for the coordination of the Interventional Radiology specialty which includes fiscal responsibility and specified activities within service. Provides leadership for the provision of quality patient care in accordance with the hospital's mission, goals and philosophy.
Job Specific Duties
- Functions as clinical expert/role model for the Interventional Radiology department, identifying clinical and communication issues.
- Collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team in daily care planning, as appropriate, and fosters a Family Centered Care Environment.
- Responds and provides direction in planning, organizing, delegating and coordinating unit related activities, including fiscal responsibility, as well as specialty service activities.
- Conducts all training for new employees, serves as a preceptor for service line and assesses employee skills and competencies.
- Promotes a safe "error free" working environment by consistently performing thorough hand-offs and infection prevention measures.
- Provides nursing care that includes IV site monitoring, specimen collection, and assists medical team with specific procedures.
- Performs skin & structural assessment, takes measures to accommodate patient, and ensures safe care while ensuring no medication errors.
- Initiates intravenous access and places urinary catheters as per hospital policy.
- Ensures completion of surgical documentation requirements (consent, labs, H&P, patient history, etc.).
- Coordinates and ensures accuracy of physician preference cards in an effort to expedite all surgeries and build upon physician satisfaction.
- Follows physician’s orders, administers, and reconstitutes medications when needed.
- Ensures and monitors set up and maintenance of sterile field, performs all reconciliation, and counts of instruments per retained surgical site policy.
- Coordinates utilization of antibiotics per protocol and according the physician preference cards.
- Remains with the patient during emergence and extubation. Assists Anesthesia team as needed.
- Transports the patient to recovery room and completes the SOAR checklist for the procedure.
- Ensures advanced directives, secures blood consents, documents time-out procedures, ensures the correct site/side is marked, (when applicable).
- Accesses electronic health record (EMR) and performs charge reconciliation according to hospital policy.
- Communicates and documents critical lab results per hospital policy and procedures.
- Communicates with patients and families to review plan of care and solicits input and communicate any patient and family concerns to physician.
- Accountable to optimize first case starts to prevent delay of patient care as per departmental goal.
- Coordinates with Scheduling department for follow-up appointments, scheduling of add-on patients, and ensuring schedule is appropriate to optimize patient experience.
- Performs post-procedure follow-up call with patient/family and report to Interventional Radiologist any concerns.
Minimum Job Requirements
- RN - Registered Nurse RN Licensure within the State of Florida or Multi-State Enhanced Nursing License Compact (eNLC) - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- CPR BLS -American Heart Association BLS maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- PALS - American Heart Association PALS maintain active and in good standing throughout employment within 2 years
- 2-4 years RN experience in OR, Cath Lab, Surgical Services, or ICU setting
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- BSN degree or currently enrolled in BSN program
- Pediatric Nursing experience in Critical Care/OR/Emergency Room setting is preferred
- Career Development: National certified preferably within 5 years of hire
- Ability to be on-call as needed
- Proficient in Microsoft Office preferred
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely fashion with attention to detail
- Demonstrate strong time management, critical thinking, verbal and written communication skills
- Able to maintain dignity and confidentiality of the patient and serve as a patient advocate
