Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, located in Norfolk, Virginia, is hiring Nursing Professional Development Generalist to join our Burn Trauma Intermediate Care - Med/Surg Team.
Burn Trauma is a 34-bed mixed Intermediate care and medical/surgical unit. There are 17 beds for stepdown/intermediate level of care. The patient population is neurosurgery, trauma, burns and orthopedic trauma. The intermediate care patients are received from both the Burn Trauma ICU and the Neurosurgical ICU. Also, there are 17 beds for Medical/Surgical level of care for neurosurgical, trauma, burns, orthopedic trauma, and bariatric weight loss (gastric bypass and gastric sleeves). Our nurses are trained to work both the intermediate and the medical surgical side. The nurse to patient ratio for the Intermediate Care beds are 3 to 4 and for the Medical/Surgical beds are 5 to 6. The Registered Nurse will work in a collaborative role as part of a team to maintain and support the standards of nursing care and practice, to meet the health care needs of patients, their families, and the community.

Position Overview
- Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday - Friday
- Rotating Shifts
- BSN – required.
- 2 years in a clinical nursing role – required.
- Preferred experience: Teaching; Nursing Professional Development (NPD) or specialty professional nursing certification; advanced or specialized life support certifications required as defined by specific specialty.
In this role you will:
- Assume operational responsibility for the development and implementation of staff education within designated population(s).
- Function as a learning facilitator supporting onboarding and unit orientation, practice transitions, and continuing education.
- Provide foundational education competency/skills validation to successfully move nurses from novice to beginner/competent practitioners.
- Be accountable for defined aspects of staff development, continuing education, and professional development of nursing staff to improve quality, safety, and patient outcomes.
