Overview
— The Medical Records Summary Writer (internally called a Quality Assurance Coordinator) is responsible for reviewing and extracting pertinent medical information from prior medical records and creating a well written summary. Ensures that all case medical records are incorporated and in date order. Pertinent information to be pulled from the medical records and summarized will include items such as demographic information, mechanism of injury, complaints, past history, diagnosis, treatment recommendations and work status.
Responsibilities
Reviewing all prior medical records, extracting pertinent information, and composing a summary of same.
Ensures the content, format, and professional appearance of the summaries are of the highest quality and in compliance with company standards.
• Ensures clear, concise, summaries with an ability to work from templates where requested.
• Ensures that all instructions and specifications have been followed and that all categories have been addressed.
• Identifies any inconsistencies within the medical report and makes indication on same as needed.
• Maintains confidentiality of personal and financial information at all times and in accordance with HIPPA regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education and Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent experience required Minimum one-year of related industry experience needed.
• Familiarity in medical terminology.
• Must demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness; look for ways to improve and promote quality and monitors own work to ensure quality is met.
• Must be able to follow established guidelines and protocols for producing medical summaries
• Must be able to proofread completed work for any grammar, typographical or spelling errors.
• Must possess a strong attention to detail.
• Must be knowledgeable of multiple software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, and the Internet.
• Must have a full understanding of HIPAA regulations and compliance.
• Must demonstrate exceptional communication skills by conveying necessary information accurately, listening effectively and asking questions where clarification is needed.
• Must be able to work independently, prioritize work activities and use time efficiently.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
