Key Position Details:
This 34-bed unit cares for post-operative patients who have undergone spinal surgeries including fusions and discectomies. Our goal is to quickly return our patients to their life at home, with over 90% of our patients discharging to home in 2-3 days. Our nurses care for 3-4 patients on day and evening shifts, and 5-6 patients on nights. There are about 60 nurses on this specialized unit, and the staff enjoy sharing their knowledge with new graduate nurses. The unit manager stated, "H7000 staff are amazing! It is a great team and they all work together to get things done." We have a unit culture that is based on helping each other, speaking up for patient safety, and asking questions when unsure. The Spine unit is a great place to learn, grow and develop your skills.
Position Tiers:
- Tier 1: Spine experience
- Tier 2: Med/surg experience
- Tier 3: New grad RN
- .9 FTE (72 hours per two week schedule)
- 12-hour overnight shifts
- Every third weekend rotation
- MNA-represented, benefit-eligible position
Job Description:
Nursing involves the assessment and treatment of human responses to actual or potential health problems, establishing an intentional therapeutic relationship between a registered nurse and a patient and family. As a leader and integrator of care, the professional nurse is responsible for planning, coordinating, and evaluating the patient's care needs.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Comprehensive assessment of patient and family needs; identification of outcomes based on needs assessment; establishing the plan of care; supervising progress; and modifying the plan of care as needed.
- Maintains education and competencies to remain proficient in providing high-quality patient care.
- Incorporates evidence-based nursing practice considering current statutes, rules, and regulations when developing the plan of care.
- Establishes realistic and measurable patient expected outcomes in collaboration with the family and patient.
- Identifies age-appropriate and culturally appropriate outcomes.
- Coordinates, collaborates, and delegates appropriately to ensure safe and effective care.
- Fulfills all organizational requirements.
- Supplemental roles include:
- Charge Nurse (when acting in this role): Demonstrates ability to coordinate, delegate, and direct unit operations.
- Preceptor (when acting in this role): Demonstrates ability to identify the orientee's learning needs and validate clinical competence.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate's or Vocational degree
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Professional RN experience
- Medical/Surgical experience
Licenses/Certifications:
- Licensed Registered Nurse - MN Board of Nursing required if working in MN upon hire / WI Department of Safety & Professional Services required if working in WI upon hire.
- Must meet at least ONE of the following:
Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross
Allina in-house BLS training (within 30 days of hire) - Certified Medical Surgical RN (CMSRN) preferred
