Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform blood draws using both straight needles and butterfly technique as prescribed.
- Label and process specimens accurately, preparing them for testing.
- Operate a centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to test orders and procedures.
- Update patient information and maintain accurate records for all procedures.
- Package specimens for transport and manage storage following strict protocols.
- Follow OSHA and DEP guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
- Assist with training and troubleshooting within the lab setting.
- Regularly attend training sessions to stay updated on the latest in phlebotomy practice.
- Answer phone calls and communicate test results compellingly.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for North Carolina or as per state requirements.
- At least 6 months of work experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital environment.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Ability to work comfortably with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with pediatric patients in a clinical setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- More than 2 years of professional experience as a phlebotomist.
- Proven ability to handle multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Experience in a supervisory role within a clinical setting is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to new situations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Skills:
- Expertise in various blood collection techniques including the use of straight and butterfly needles.
- Proficient in handling and operating laboratory equipment safely.
