Patient Recruitment Specialist (Clinical Research)
We have an opportunity available for a Patient Recruitment Specialist to join our team at MedStar Health Research Institute in Washington, DC.
As part of the Georgetown-Howard Universities Center for Clinical and Translational Science (GHUCCTS) program and Medstar Research Institute, the Patient Recruitment Specialist holds a pivotal role in shaping the research patient experience and supporting the success of recruitment and retention for clinical research. Works alongside the Manager Patient Recruitment and research teams to design and implement recruitment and retention strategies to meet targeted enrollment goals for study protocols. Maintains the library of tools, as well as documentation of business processes and quality standards for effective recruitment strategies.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Reads and understands clinical trial protocols with an emphasis on inclusion and exclusion criteria as well as HIPAA compliance, human subjects' regulations, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines. In collaboration with investigator and research team, determines specific subject population to be reached based on protocol inclusion and exclusion criteria to develop a recruitment plan.
- Builds and maintains effective communication with internal teams and with external partners. Communicates with clinical trial sponsors to provide recruitment updates and outcomes as applicable.
- Manages email correspondence and incoming calls from current and potential research participants. Maintains an active and engaging social media presence, responding to inquiries, and addressing potential participant concerns promptly and professionally.
- Designs and manages visuals and content for social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and any other relevant platforms. Assists with the implementation of social media strategies to increase online visibility and engagement. Monitors and responds to comments and messages. Works with the research teams to create, update and distribute recruitment flyers, brochures, and advertisements for clinical research.
- Collaborates with the research team to design well-structured community outreach leads to support community engagement activities, research awareness activities, outreach activities with targeted populations, research community events, and health fairs to promote research, and support the community advisory board as needed. Attends outreach and community events as applicable.
- Drafts and proofreads documents, reports, and communications using branded materials intended to educate the community and recruit potential research participants. Understands and ensures IRB approvals prior to using research community-facing materials.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in business or health-related field required
- Master's degree preferred
- One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience
- 3-4 years relevant experience in healthcare-related field with the ability to engage with a diverse patient population and/or potential research participants and interacting with a multidisciplinary team required
- One year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong organization and people skills. Patient and community focus, well organized, detail-oriented, and must possess a high degree of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality with HIPAA guidelines. Excellent time, priority, self-management. High degree proficiency in managing digital platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Canva). Creation of community-facing educational materials, creativity, and attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
