The function of the Clinic Radiologic/Mammography Technologist position within the East Portland Clinic is to provide technical diagnostic support. The technologist will operate X-Ray equipment used to capture and develop images for the purpose of medical diagnosis. The candidate will also perform functions of a PAS, or other duties as needed, to ensure the efficient workflow and turnover of outpatient exams.
Function/Duties of Position
IMAGING: Provides quality images with accuracy and efficiency, using optimal skills and knowledge of all equipment
- Technologists will be trained in performing the required orthopedic radiographic examinations.
- Positions patient for diagnostic radiology according to department procedures, training, and machine requirements with a high regard for the safety and care of the patient.
- Operates radiology equipment, determines and sets exposure factors, sets technique utilizing all relevant factors to ensure accurate and quality images with minimal and acceptable repeat rates.
- Uses computer image processing, as needed to select, optimize and archive images to PACS.
- Completely tracks exams in the Radiology Information system.
- Processes images and related patient information for radiologist for diagnosis.
DOCUMENTATION:
Gathers complete documentation of all pertinent information to provide accurate and timely service to customers.
- Follows proper procedure to positvely identify patients, asking them to repeat their full name and date of birth.
- Reviews patient orders to ensure correct examination.
- Labels images completely with demographic, position and other needed documentation.
- Properly charges exams as required in Epicare.
- Follows department and hospital procedures and policies.
- Performs quality control and quality assurance, records results and reports variance from normal equipment function.
PERSONAL & PATIENT CARE AND SAFETY: Provides for personal and patient care and safety using professional judgment in accordance with written standards so there is no injury to self or others.
- Protects patients and others in the area by using proper equipment settings and radiation safety standards.
- Practices universal and blood and body fluid precautions, and sterile practices according to procedures.
- Practices age-appropriate competencies, communicates and uses knowledge of related anatomy and physiology to insure appropriate and effective care.
- Maintains awareness of patient status and takes appropriate actions to meet their needs.
PROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR:
Practices ethical and professional communications, conduct, and attitude that leads to physician, patient and co-worker respect and confidence.
- Informs and educates patient and/or family of all needed information concerning the exam performed.
- Excercises good judgment to present a professional image of competency to customer and staff.

- Handles stressful situations in ways that promote positive outcomes.
- Takes personal initiative to maintain current in education (journals, books, inservices seminars, etc.) in all areas assigned.
Clinical Duties:
- Answer incoming phone calls and appropriately schedule appointments, take messages or route to RN/MA as needed.
- When available route RightFax faxes to the correct team.
- Update and maintain word and excel documents that are the responsibility of the tech.
- Assist with medication prior authorization specialist as needed.
- Assist front office and phone staff with odd jobs as needed.
- Completes Epic Care, Cadence Basic, etc., training when necessary as outlined by Practice Manager.

Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited radiography program that meets current qualifications to take and pass the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) board examinations
- Will consider graduate students from approved Radiologic Technology program. 1 Year Radiologic Technologist Experience
- Perform diagnostic imaging studies, Radiation safety,
- Effective use of equipment, Record maintenance, Infection control, Quality control, Compliance, Patient Communication, Contrast media, problem solving, judgment, teamwork and taking initiative.
- Must be able to work independently with a minimum of direct supervision.
- Must have reliable attendance record.
- Licensed as a Radiologic Technologist through the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging and Be eligible for certification as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist with the American Registry for Radiologic Technologists.
- Student candidates must obtain the ARRT registry within 6 months of hire date.
- Current BLS Healthcare Provider Card.

Preferred Qualifications
- CMA Certified from an accredited program.
- 1 Year Radiologic Technologist Experience
Additional Details
Pay Range: $34.43 - $47.27 per hour (Commensurate with qualifications, experience and internal equity)
- Benefited position, with overtime as required. This position works in a busy environment with frequent interruptions, multiple demands and continuous interaction with patients and other medical professionals. It requires being exposed to radiation, chemical solutions, and human tissue/fluids. Location is with Family Medicine East Portland Clinic, Portland, OR
- Ability to speak clearly, demonstrate patience and understanding of patients' needs. Must be able to deal with competing needs and priorities of patients and internal customers. Use of personal computers, copiers, phones, and fax machine. Must have ability to stand, lift, and move patients.
