JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Kapur Laboratory at The Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences is seeking a highly motivated and organized Research Technologist to support their global health and infectious disease research efforts.
Supported by major funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, National Institutes of Health, and the US Department of Defense, our lab is focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms and risks associated with major animal and zoonotic infectious diseases and developing novel strategies for their improved diagnosis, treatment, and control.
Responsibilities:
- Perform molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, PCR (Real-Time/conventional), gel electrophoresis, bacterial and viral culture, serological assays (ELISA), DNA sequencing, and data analysis as required.
- Lab organization and operations including order and manage lab reagents and supplies, as well as ensure lab organization and safety in accordance with Environmental Health and Safety protocols.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for best practices including for lab operations and safety.
- Monitor and support undergraduate student researchers as required.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a related life sciences field and 1+ years of related experience
- Experience with molecular biology and microbiology techniques
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and to multi-task
Preferred Qualifications:
- One to two years of experience working in a highly active research laboratory setting
- Experience with next generation sequencing, molecular epidemiology, advanced data analyses, and scientific writing
- Familiarity with MS Office 365, command line use, and R programming

$38,300.00 - $55,500.00
