INTERNAL RECRUITMENT TO UC DAVIS ONLY. The Albert Holmes Rowe Chair in Human Genetics I and IV provides additional funding to current UC Davis academic appointees. The additional funding may support the endowed professorship holder in areas of teaching, research, and service directly related to the purpose of the endowment.

Position Description
The holder of the Albert Holmes Rowe Chair of Genetics I and IV will be a faculty member in the School of Medicine who specializes in human genetics and molecular medicine and whose distinguished scholarship is nationally recognized. The initial term of each Albert Holmes Rowe Chair of Genetics I and IV is for five years, with the option of reappointment per regularly established University procedures for endowed chair/professorship appointments (APM 191, UCD 191). The position is not a change in series opportunity; we are accepting applications from faculty who currently hold a title in the Ladder Rank, In-Residence, Clinical X, or HSCP series. The endowment payout will support the professor's efforts in research, teaching, and service and further the core missions of the School of Medicine. It is expected that the holder of the endowed professor will advance at least normally through the faculty ranks on the basis of his/her scholarly activities, teaching, University and public service.
Responsibilities of the Endowed Chair:
- Engage in teaching and scholarly activities focused in the area of human genetics
- Provide leadership for medical students and graduate student teaching commensurate with senior faculty in the School of Medicine
- Promote biomedical genetic research and education at UC Davis
- Promote the training of physician scientists
- Enhance the academic and intellectual life of the campus as a whole
- Provide leadership for faculty and student members of the program
Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Must be a current faculty at UC Davis/UC Davis Health. To qualify for appointment as the endowed chair holder, candidates must hold a faculty appointment in the School of Medicine and have interests and demonstrated aptitude/accomplishments in the area of genetics research. Successful candidates from other schools and colleges will be nominated for an appointment in the School of Medicine. Candidates will be screened for record of genetics research and current faculty status. Evidence of extramural funding and of organizational excellence is required. Additionally, candidates will be reviewed for:
- Creative problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication, including relationship building skills and political acumen.
- Ability to foster collegiality and work collaboratively in a diverse environment.
- Ability to adhere to University policies and procedures.
