USW Firefighter/EMT

Position Overview
Under direction of supervision respond to emergencies including medical, fire, rescue, hazmat, and other’s, as they arise. Responsible for knowing the operation and location of all fire hydrants, portable extinguishers, and fire suppression systems. Tests, inspects, and maintains Fire Protection equipment including fixed systems, vehicles, extinguishers, and other fire/rescue systems and equipment. Inspects and recharges extinguishers. Required to know the operation and maintenance of all types, including specialized, firefighting and rescue tools and equipment. Must know all types of chemicals used in various equipment and their application to types of fire anticipated. May be called on to instruct in training programs and instruct auxiliary crews. Participates in regular drills and exercises. Must hold current Ohio EMT-B I or/Paramedic and Ohio Firefighter II Certification. Support fire protection and fire prevention programs as needed. Monitor alarms and dispatch emergency responses. Complete documentation on activities when needed. Other related duties. Actively participates in safety work groups. Performs other duties as assigned by supervision.
Working Conditions
Work in an environmental restoration atmosphere (outdated and/or abandoned facilities). Potential exposure to equipment movement hazards, dangerous chemicals/solvents or hazardous and radioactive materials if proper safety procedures are not followed.
Will be required to pass FF fitness exam.
Ability to wear respirator and other protective equipment to enter various types of potentially hazardous areas (such as but not limited to chemical, dust fumes, mists, heat stress factors, etc.).
Ability to carry several instruments/equipment or tools while walking extensively. Potential prolonged walking/standing, repeated pushing/pulling.
Ability to perform medium to very heavy work, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, non-repetitive, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or more than 20 pounds of force constantly, repetitive; performing such activities as lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, grasping, kneeling, stooping, reaching.
Potential for prolonged driving of or riding in a motor vehicle, machine operation, and/or working around moving equipment/machinery or motorized vehicles (such as but not limited to car, truck, golf cart, gator, heavy equipment).
Ability to work in confined areas, tanks, heat stress conditions, high noise and areas with radiation and chemical hazards.
Environmental conditions may include weather or temperature extremes, inclement weather (such as but not limited to wind, rain, excessive heat, excessive cold, snow/ice, etc.)
Radiological training will be required.
May be required to operate company vehicle during the course of work. All safety and DOT regulations and procedures must be adhered to at all times.

Must be able to work in confined spaces, dry/dusty/hot/humid/wet environments, high places, work with acids, alkali, fumes/gases/vapors/ solvents/radioactive material, oil & greases, exposure to burns, sudden temperature changes, mechanical hazards, moving objects, outside work.
Must be able to wear company provided personal protective equipment and respiratory protection, when required.
Must have valid driver’s license and be able to operate both standard and automatic transmission vehicles.
Must be able to operate emergency response vehicles.
Must possess a DOE "L" clearance or the ability to obtain a "L" clearance.
Must be able to work a shift schedule.

Required Experience
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
- Must be a high school graduate or possess a GED.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience as active fire fighter (career/volunteer) with documented evidence of emergency response activity.
- Experience with fixed industrial fire protection equipment and Haz-Mat Training is desirable.
- Experience in Industrial Fire Protection and Fire Protection systems is desirable.
- Current Fire Fighter II Certification in the State of Ohio.
- Current EMT (B.I or P) in the State of Ohio (Minimum one (1) year experience)
