Summary

Experience in the ED or ICU; or preferably 5 years of med surg in addition to leadership experience.
This is a very active position, supporting all areas.
Responsible for the flow of patients throughout the hospital.
Responsible for coordination of inpatient admissions and adjusting resources to meet patient needs as needs and demands change.
Position Summary
Directs Nursing Services operations and acts as hospital administrator responsible for coordinating institutional activities on the assigned shift on all Maine Medical Center Biddeford/Sanford campuses. Responsible for directing and overseeing department employees and activities. Maintains and enhances public relations efforts. Supports and enforces Maine Medical Center Biddeford/Sanford and departmental policies, procedures and objectives. Responsible for providing leadership in the hospital environment and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care teams to direct patient care and ensure optimal patient outcomes, utilizing existing resources. This position reports directly to the Resource Supervisor Manager.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of nursing or equivalent experience is required.
- License/Certifications: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maine required. BLS and ability to perform CPR required. ACLS certification preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of five years' recent acute care experience. Three years of experience in hospital admissions or related environment preferred. Experience in effective day-to-day oversight of clinical staff.
- Strong interpersonal skills, effective written and verbal communication skills, decisive judgment, and decision-making.
- Demonstrates strong organizational and effective leadership skills with the ability to work well within a team environment by accepting and offering honest and constructive feedback.
- Ability to be objective and impartial to make decisions based on the needs of the whole hospital.
- Leadership skills and in-depth knowledge of nursing practice and procedures and SMHC policies and procedures at a level usually acquired through three to five years of related experience.
- Clinical and administrative knowledge and ability necessary to interpret, enforce, and contribute to the development of policies and procedures.
- Ability to integrate knowledge of the institution with good judgement to make multiple, rapid decisions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to provide effective leadership and to communicate effectively with leaders at all levels, patients, visitors, and all hospital team members. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in conversations around sensitive and/or emotionally charged issues in a manner that is aligned with MaineHealth Values and supports the role of all participants.
- Receive initial concerns, review and take any immediate actions necessary. Convey handoff of information to Patient & Guest Relations.
- A high level of analytical skills to identify the need for and then develop and implement new systems, techniques, and procedures, to improve the functioning of assigned departments, and prepare special and recurring reports or analyses.
- Advanced communication skills and knowledge of nursing and administrative theory and practice.
