This is a partner funded position with an end date of 8/31/25, renewable based upon availability of funding, work performance, and progress toward research goals. The Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, in conjunction with the Seton Ascension Healthcare Family, is seeking an Advanced Practice Nurse to provide clinical care as part of an outpatient pediatric psychiatry co-located mental health service in Austin, Texas. We seek candidates committed to providing exemplary care and treatment that restores hope and helps patients and families live healthier, fuller lives.
This is partially funded by the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium (TCMHCC). The University of Texas Dell Medical School is a Health Research Institute (HRI) for the TCMHCC. This position will support the Texas Child Mental Health Programs (TCMHP) including Perinatal Psychiatry Access Network (PeriPAN), Child Psychiatry Access Network (CPAN), Texas Child Health Access Through Telemedicine (TCHATT), as well as other related Dell Children's Medical Center initiatives. PeriPAN and CPAN provide one-on-one support to patient care providers that help treat the mental health needs of children (CPAN) and perinatal women (PeriPAN) and provide access to mental health services. TCHATT provides telehealth services to school districts to help identify and assess the behavioral health needs of children and adolescents and provides access to mental health services.
Purpose
The Advanced Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will evaluate and treat children and adolescents with a broad spectrum of mental health challenges and engage in educational and training activities with medical students, residents, and nurse practitioner students.
Responsibilities
Works collaboratively and cooperatively with other professionals, consulting with, and to, other providers to optimize clinical outcomes and efciencies. Establishes and maintains professional relationships with individuals served and their families, engaging the in- dividual-served and family in the denition of problems and problem resolution. Attends and participates in treatment team meetings, and in departmental and divisional meetings, as assigned.
Conducts clinical assessments in person and virtually for the purpose of diagnosing mental, emotional, behavioral, addictive and developmental disorders and disabilities, inclusive of obtaining health history through interviews of individuals-served and their families, clinical record review, and performing appropriate physical examination. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies. Performs preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations and patient care. Refers to other healthcare providers, as appropriate.
Participates in the development of appropriate, evidence- and assessment-based, person-centered treatment plans in consultation with individuals-served, their families, and other team members. Educates individuals-served and families regarding medications and treatments, and about health promotion/illness prevention. Recommends appropriate community resources to meet the needs of individuals served and their families; and communicates relevant case management information to other professionals and community management of health conditions via prescriptive authority, in compliance with medical practice guidelines and state laws. Completes documentation in the clinical record related to interaction with individuals- served, families and other service providers in an accurate and timely manner, and in accordance with professional ethics and with both Federal and State regulations.
Reviews clinical records to determine the progress, effectiveness, and appropriateness of treatment-team services offered. Participates in quality improvement and initiatives that analyze professional practice, outcomes and efciencies, including peer review, chart review, staff education, clinical guideline development, and other continuing education and quality assurance activities to demonstrate compliance with standards, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required QualificationsCurrently licensed as an Advanced Practice Nurse-Psychiatric Mental Health in the State of Texas and in good standing. Graduate of licensed and accredited nursing school. Master's degree. Eligible for credentialing and privileging by the Seton Healthcare Family. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Outstanding organizational and time-management skills. Ability to address individuals and information with a high degree of sensitivity and condentiality in various delicate, formal, or urgent situations. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and patients. Must be comfortable and exible with changing priorities and self-directed problem solving.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred QualificationsThree (3) or more years of experience in a busy outpatient or inpatient clinical practice with minimal clinical guidance. Experience delivering care through a multidisciplinary team. Prociency using Cerner electronic medical records. Experience tracking, measuring, and using patient reported outcomes in developing treatment plans for patients. Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Salary Range$118,000+ depending on qualifications
