Job Summary:
UT Southwestern is hiring a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) as an integral part of our clinical care team. This full-time RRT night position will work collaboratively with our clinical caregivers, patients, and families to improve and maintain ideal lung health for all ages (adult, geriatric, and neonatal). As a valued member of our Respiratory Care team, you will be applying and monitoring medical gases (excluding anesthetic gases) and environmental control systems, mechanical ventilatory support, artificial airway care, bronchopulmonary hygiene, pharmacologic agents related to respiratory care procedures, and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation related and limited to respiratory care. Experience and Education:
- Two (2) years of critical care preferred.
- A.A.S Graduate of accredited program in respiratory care (Bachelor's degree preferred)
- License by the Texas Medical Board
- Registered by the NBRC
- Basic Life Support (BLS) by the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Specialty areas may have increased certification/license requirements as dictated by unit or standard of care.
Job Duties:
- Administer therapy according to departmental policies and procedures. Demonstrate decision-making skills in patient assessment and plan of care based on desired outcomes of therapy, clinical data, consultation with physicians and progress of the patient.
- On one's own initiative, assist in writing procedures or giving in-services recognized as necessary by the individual. Perform technical procedures and operate equipment with a high level of expertise.
- Maintain knowledge of infrequently used equipment and ordered patient therapeutics. Assess patient and family's knowledge deficit regarding Cardiopulmonary anatomy and physiology, therapeutic procedures, respiratory drug interactions or contraindications, smoking cessation.
- Adhere to department administrative procedures of error free patient charge entry, timely and concise SBAR shift report, accurate documentation and accurate EMR order management.
- Demonstrate activities consistent with the financial objectives of the department in the use of disposable supplies and equipment change out. Assume and perform charge therapist duties when assigned according to departmental policies.
- If not charge therapist, then report all relative patient care and equipment issues to charge therapist. Request assistance from the charge therapist when appropriate. Demonstrate engagement by attending and participating in 90% of all department and town hall meetings.
- Take responsibility for maintaining supplies and equipment in all areas of the hospital; take responsibility for reporting and follow through to biomedical on equipment in need of repair.
- Actively participate in Quality Assurance departmental activities and objectives. Foster teamwork by treating all staff fairly, facilitating 2-way communication and having a collaborative attitude.
- Adhere to hospital and department attendance policies, including self-scheduling, vacation and holiday rotation policy.
