Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC), established in 1971, offers a full continuum of evidence-based behavioral health and addiction services for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors throughout New Jersey. UBHC's 1,060 experienced behavioral health professionals and support staff are dedicated to treatment, prevention, and education.
Specialty services include the New Jersey suicide prevention helpline and peer help lines for police, veterans, active military, teachers, mothers of special needs children, and child protective service workers.
Posting Summary
Rutgers The State University is seeking a Mental Health Specialist II in the Lifeline National Backup Center within Rutgers University Behavioral Healthcare. Performs functions in support of the Unit's mission providing streamlined, prompt, and "customer friendly" services to clients of the Lifeline National Backup Center.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Interacts with clients in a therapeutic manner.
- Models good communication skills, recovery-oriented living skills, effective coping skills, and self-help strategies.
- Assists clients in identifying their personal recovery goals and setting objectives.
- Develops and maintains a relationship with clients to identify emotional, psychiatric, or behavioral changes.
- Advocates for appropriate resources for clients based on assessed needs.
- May facilitate structured skill trainings on various mental health issues.
- Actively participates in ensuring that all service requests are handled effectively.
Position Status: Part Time
Hours Per Week: 16
Daily Work Shift: Night
FLSA: Nonexempt
Position Salary: $25.55 an hour
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience: Four (4) years of full-time paid experience in an appropriate mental health or human service field or a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Physical Demands:
- This position demands standing, walking throughout the program space, and lifting up to 20 lbs.
Work Environment:
- Handles phone requests under time and decision-making pressure.
- Generally pleasant working conditions in a clean, well-lighted, and quiet to moderately loud setting.
- Crisis intervention is a common occurrence.
