Our Women's PACU is seeking an experienced PreOp/PACU Nurse for a full-time position as an RN Perioperative Liaison. Schedule: 5x8 hour shifts/week; 7am-3pm. This position serves as a liaison for the Perioperative team, patients, and families from PreOp through recovery and discharge. Responsible for providing clinical and emotional support and education along with discharge instructions.
Our unit is a 32-bay Preoperative and PACU department caring for patients before and after their General Gynecology, Gynecological Oncology, Urological Gynecology, and Robotic procedures. We care for 30 patients a day on average, 75% of which go home the same day from the PACU. Our acuity ranges from benign procedures to extensive oncology cases.
The Perioperative Nurse Liaison achieves optimal patient outcomes utilizing an integrated approach. Ensures improvements in practice settings by providing direction and guidance to others regarding practice. Serves as a resource, preceptor, and mentor while demonstrating leadership skills in decision-making and problem-solving. Provides knowledgeable/caring clinical practice and care coordination through collaboration with the patient, family, nurse, and healthcare delivery teams.
Job Responsibilities:
- Supports/empowers patients and families as they progress through the perioperative continuum. Anticipates patient variances and revises the plan of care when needed.
- Anticipates patient needs to ensure a smooth transition from the perioperative environment. Facilitates communication amongst the multidisciplinary team, patients, and families and collaborates with the healthcare team, incorporating their expertise to lead to desired outcomes. Completes and appropriately documents postoperative phone calls.
- Communicates follow-up information from postoperative phone calls to leaders and members of the multidisciplinary team. Ensures criteria are met for same-day discharge/admission in postoperative patients.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives and incorporates research findings into nursing practice.
- Mentors staff in understanding and advocating for the importance of utilizing relationship-based care initiatives in nursing practice.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- One year of Preoperative and PACU, and/or OR nursing experience is required.
- Education - Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Associate's degree. If RN has an Associate's degree, must complete BSN within 5 years of start date.
- RN License to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- BLS for Healthcare Provider certification via American Heart Association.
