Job Summary: Geisinger is proud to offer a Surgical Technologist a $7500 hiring incentive for eligible candidates, competitive pay rates, up to $5/hr shift differential for evening, night and weekend shifts and up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse!
Job Duties:
Surgical Technologists assist in surgical operations. They are responsible for preparing the operating rooms for surgery; sterilizing and supplying equipment; preparing patients for surgery, such as washing the incision site; and helping surgeons and nurses during surgery by passing them instruments and other sterile supplies.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting in the coordination of care in the operating room.
- Preparing the operating room supplies and equipment for surgical procedures as indicated per surgeon and preference card.
- Practicing aseptic techniques while preparing for surgery including scrubbing, applying surgical gown, gloving, draping, and setting up instrument table.
- Actively participating in surgical Time and Out and OR Briefing according to the universal protocol.
- Identifying correct surgical site with the circulating RN and Surgeon before incision of operative procedures.
- Maintaining an accurate account of supplies including sponges, needles, and instruments.
- Verifying count with the circulating nurse at the end of the procedure.
- Preparing, identifying, and verifying all specimens obtained during the surgical procedure.
- Following Universal Protocol standards in the OR.
- Identifying and reporting any concerns or observations that may impact patient care to the RN circulator.
- Contributing to the resolution of problems by offering effective options, alternatives, and solutions.
- Participating in on-call rotations of OR.
- Adhering to all policies, protocols, and standards of care.
- Participating in JCAHO mandated educational programs.
- Assuring all medications and solutions are labeled under the RN's supervision.

Education: Graduate from Specialty Training Program - (Required)
Experience: Minimum of 3 years related work experience (Preferred)
