Position Description
The Anoka County Finance department’s mission is Enriching our community by providing quality services and assuring financial integrity. The Finance department has an immediate opening for an Associate Accountant who will perform various accounting duties, including accounts payable transactions for various Anoka County departments. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate financial records and compliance with governmental standards and internal policies and procedures.
The Associate Accountant performs work under direct supervision. The Associate Accountant will possess beginning to working knowledge of accounting, handle basic issues and problems associated with accounting, and refer more complex issues to higher-level staff.
This is a full-time, non-exempt, hybrid position. Interviews will take place the week of May 20th, 2024, for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.
Pay & Benefits
- Salary: $23.08 to $27.12 ($48,006 to $56,409 per hour).
- 2024 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 28: $23.08 to $31.16 ($48,006 to $64,812 per hour).

Work Location
- This position will work at the Anoka County Government Center, located at 2100 3rd Ave, Anoka, MN 55303.
- This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work, with some days working remotely and some days working in the office.
- Expected work hours are Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Job Duties and Responsibilities

- Assist with financial records and ensure that financial transactions are properly recorded.
- Provide a high level of customer service.
- Audit invoices and purchase orders for variances.
- Pay invoices timely and accurately by verifying transaction information.
- Obtain payment authorizations.
- Maintain accurate historical records in compliance with document retention requirements.
- Efficiently streamline accounts payable processes.
- Exercise integrity and confidentiality in financial reporting while maintaining financial security protocols.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed
- Requires a bachelor’s degree.
- In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed
- Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or closely related field.
- 1-2 years of accounts payable experience.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial systems and county organization and operation and ability to apply that knowledge.
- Ability to analyze, develop and interpret rules, regulations, policies, and practices.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Customer service skills.
- Attention to detail and the ability to manage a large workload.
- Ability to perform assignments under minimum supervision.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
- Standard office environment.
- Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades, and brightness.
- Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds.
- Assignments are sedentary, occasionally alternating between sitting, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling as required to perform job responsibilities. Frequent wrist and finger manipulation to complete computer work.
- Occasional lifting of 10-20 lbs.
- Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment.
- Occasional travel to other county work sites as needed. Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle.
